Economic justice is a pressing issue for Muslim Americans, who face unemployment rates twice the national average and significant wage disparities, particularly among women. These inequities underscore the urgent need for policies that address systemic barriers to economic opportunity. At Emgage, we are committed to advocating for equitable wages, affordable housing, and access to quality jobs for all communities, especially as we approach a pivotal election. Economic justice is not just about financial stability—it’s about dignity, fairness, and the right to thrive. Muslim communities, like many marginalized groups, have been disproportionately impacted by wage gaps, higher unemployment, and housing discrimination. For instance, 37% of Muslim households in the U.S. live below the federal poverty line, a stark indicator of the challenges we face. As we look to the future, we must push for leadership that prioritizes comprehensive economic reforms. Our communities deserve policies that uplift everyone and create pathways to sustainable economic growth. This election is critical in shaping those policies, and we encourage all of you to engage, vote, and advocate for justice and equity for all. Let’s work together to create a fairer, more inclusive economy.

I couldn't agree any more with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley. This is Economics 101, Per capita income (or GDP per capita) does not account for income inequality, cost of living, or distribution of wealth among the population. The use of Per Capita Income is flawed when assessing economic well-being and standard of living and by extension level vulnerability among SIDS. When taken into consideration the unique circumstances of SIDS such as prevalence of data quality issues, challenges in calculating GDP, large fluctuations in GDP brought about by natural disasters, larger informal economies relative to the developed world and outdated poverty statistics, per capita income often misrepresents the true economic situation. https://lnkd.in/ePjjw9GR

In a thought-provoking TED Talk, economist Rutger Bregman makes a compelling case for Universal Basic Income (UBI). His insights are particularly relevant for India’s journey towards economic development and social well-being. Historically, experiments like the one conducted in Dauphin, Canada in the 1970s have demonstrated that providing a basic income can lead to improved health and educational outcomes. This historical context underscores the potential positive impacts of UBI. Traditional welfare systems are often complex and bureaucratic. UBI simplifies this by providing straightforward cash payments to all citizens, reducing administrative costs and inefficiencies. With a guaranteed income, individuals have the financial security to pursue education, start businesses, and innovate. This can lead to a more dynamic and creative economy. Poverty is not a lack of character but a lack of cash. By providing a basic income, we can ensure everyone meets their basic needs, reducing poverty and its associated social problems. Receiving a basic income empowers individuals by giving them the freedom to make choices about their lives without the constant stress of financial insecurity, improving mental health and overall well-being. For India, implementing UBI or a conditional basic income policy can have transformative effects. Direct cash transfers can ensure that even the most marginalized populations have access to basic necessities. Increased disposable income can drive consumer spending, stimulating economic activity. Financial security can reduce social tensions and foster a more stable society. A UBI system can streamline welfare distribution, reducing corruption and ensuring aid reaches those who need it most. Recent research highlighted in the book “The Hidden Potential” underscores the significant impact of financial stability on educational outcomes and innovation. The study shows that children from lower-income families are less likely to pursue higher education or become inventors compared to their wealthier counterparts. Specifically, poor children are significantly less likely to file patents. By ensuring financial security through UBI, we can provide the necessary resources for education and development. This can bridge the opportunity gap, enabling more children to reach their full potential and contribute to society. Adjusting income to meet basic needs can create an environment where talent and innovation are not limited by economic constraints. As India seeks to build a more inclusive and resilient society, exploring innovative solutions like UBI could be key to unlocking greater prosperity and well-being for all its citizens. #UniversalBasicIncome #EconomicGrowth #PovertyAlleviation #SocialStability #IndiaDevelopment #RutgerBregman #EconomicInclusion #Education #Innovation #IncomeEquality #TheHiddenPotential #hackaback https://lnkd.in/d-Q-TVZm

Dependency Ratio is an essential metric in poverty studies. It indicates the pressure working members in a family are exposed to. It also highlights unemployment which may be due to factors beyond individual control, such as economic conditions and structural issues in the labor market, that can influence the prevalence and severity of dependency. This article suggests that Dependency Ratio can be easily computed from data collected in Household Surveys.

Investing in education and health can help reduce poverty and inequality, which are major drivers of social unrest and instability. By providing access to quality education and healthcare, the government can create more opportunities for economic and social mobility, reducing the risk of radicalization and conflict. #Reducing Poverty and Inequality

Today's unemployment forms a new type of poverty that requires immediate attention. When we realize and address the factors leading to this job failure, we open the door to providing job opportunities for youth. Cooperation between governments, educational institutions, the private sector, and the affluent is not only necessary to bridge this gap but also to build a future where every young man and woman achieves success, prosperity, and self-actualization. #Unemployment #Youth_lost_opportunity #Poverty #Social_responsibility
