If you live in Sweden, you will have recently received a Swedish version of this pamphlet. Are we at war? In short, no. We are not at war, but we are in a heightened state of alert. Even when a country isn't at a heightened state, you should always have a home emergency action plan (EAP) since emergencies can happen at any time. The pamphlets that were sent to all registered households are in Swedish. You can find an online version or order one in Swedish, easy Swedish, or English. While everyone should read through the pamphlet themselves, here are some key points to remember: 🪖 All Swedish citizens (including those living abroad) and Swedish residents between ages 16 and 70 are required to serve in Sweden's total defence. If you never served in the military, this doesn't mean you'll be given a gun. You are expected to go to work as usual until you are designated a posting (pg. 9). 📣 There are different outdoor warning systems. To react calmly and correctly, you should learn what the different warnings sound like (pg. 10-11, 32). 🔷 Learn where your nearest air raid shelter is. Most apartments have them built in (pg. 20). In the event of an evacuation, bring some emergency equipment if you have time (food, water, clothes). 🎒 You can contribute to the collective preparedness by making sure you are prepared to survive on your own for a week. This includes having water, non-perishable foods, and emergency lamps (pg. 15-18). Importantly, don't panic. Don't hoard. I understand that receiving this pamphlet can be a scary thing, especially if you weren't expecting it. Be prepared, don't doom scroll, and talk to your friends and family if this is weighing heavily on you. I've uploaded the English version for your convenience. Very helpful! I had a hard time understanding it when I received it as my Swedish is not that great yet. It is definitely good to be prepared and think ahead in these uncertain times...
Thank you so much for this clear and level-headed breakdown! I remember when we first got it in our mailbox, before receiving it in our Kivra as well; my husband and I wondered what was actually going on and if we were at war. The pamphlet definitely caught my attention, but your explanation helps put things in perspective. Preparedness is key, and it's good to know what steps we can take without panicking. I'll make sure to check out the English version you shared—especially the sections about the outdoor warning systems and air raid shelters. It's a bit daunting to think about, but as you said, being informed and prepared is better than being caught off guard. Appreciate you taking the time to share this. Let's stay calm and work on our preparedness together!
Apparently it has been published since 2018 unfortunately it was sent out the same days as Putin ordered the change in his nuclear doctrine which made the news hotter than it would have.
This is such a valuable post—clear and calm guidance like this is exactly what’s needed during uncertain times. Thanks for breaking it down and sharing the key points!
Öppen för arbete i Sverige.
2wI understand some people would be affected a little with a book being handed out if war or something big happened to sweden but it's great as it's a guide if anything does happen. UK does not have anything like this set up, I'm wanting to move to sweden, work into a system that cares for it's people. Just the work permit is stopping me at the moment.
