💥The #ELI collaboration with the University of Maryland, carried forward by our scientist Carlo Maria Lazzarini, generated an original result recently published on #OpticsLetters.
➡️ During his visiting research time, possibly thanks to a mobility grant from the FZU - Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Carlo Maria joined the research team led by Prof. Milchberg, working on the pulse shaping of ultrafast kHz laser pulses, together with Lucas Railing (principal investigator) and Manh Le.
➡️ The work demonstrates the loss-free generation of 3 mJ, few-cycle (5 fs) double pulses at 1 kHz repetition rate, with a pulse peak separation from 100 fs down to 10 fs, using a helium-filled hollow core fiber (HCF) and chirped mirror compressor. The innovative technique is based on modifications to the spectral phase and amplitude of the oscillator seed pulse and on the tunable nonlinear pulse splitting in the HCF compressor.
➡️ This result can be beneficial for Laser Wakefield Acceleration, a topic on which the collaboration is still actively running, but also for the broader pulse shaping and ultrafast optical communication research communities.
