Kritasha Gupta, Head of Business Development, Financial Times, UK, joined our recent Congress in Copenhagen to share insights from the company’s mini-brands and a few lessons on newsrooms finding their feet in the B2B diversification space. 👉 It reminded me of the mini-publisher concept from our Table Stakes Europe programme, something that DC Thomson deployed. This involved creating teams led by editorial to produce niche content to targeted local audiences... with the ultimate goals of increasing engagement, drive newsletters subs and, of course, digital subs. It has worked quite well so far. 👉 The FT's mini-brands (verticals) differ a bit in that they function more like mini franchises. They are derived from broader topics, and are a part of the company’s core paid subscription packages. But what the FT didn't expect was the level of engagement this would create. Each franchise produces newsletters, digital hubs, events, podcasts, videos – supported by sponsorships, advertising, and, yep, reader revenue. 👉 They now have committees to proof of concept possible mini-brands, to measure success or failure, to stop or invest more. https://lnkd.in/eQtWi2mq
