𝐍𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐀 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐏’𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐌𝐎 The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced that it will share findings from its investigation of an offshore helicopter crash near Bonny Finima, Port Harcourt, with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) via the Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS). This step is part of Nigeria’s commitment to international maritime safety standards and transparency. Dr. Dayo Mobereola, NIMASA’s Director-General, confirmed that the helicopter’s black box, as well as other crucial components like the rotor, blades, and cockpit panels, were recovered through a coordinated effort involving NIMASA, the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), NNPC, and other partners. The helicopter crashed 1.4 km from the FPSO vessel NUIM ANTAN, owned by NNPC. The investigation received initial distress signals on October 24, 2024, and led to swift recovery actions, with over 80% of the wreckage now located. On Friday, October 11th, 2024, a fire broke out aboard the German-flagged oil and chemical tanker Annika in the Baltic Sea, northeast of Kühlungsborn, Germany. The 73-meter-long vessel, carrying approximately 640 tons of oil, experienced a severe fire in the engine room. Immediate rescue efforts were initiated, and all seven crew members were safely evacuated by the rescue boat WILMA SIKORSKI shortly after 10 a.m. local time. Several rescue and firefighting assets, including the rescue cruiser ARKONA, the offshore tugboat Baltic, and the multi-purpose ship Arkona, were dispatched to the scene. However, firefighting efforts continued throughout the day as the engine room remained ablaze. As of 3:28 p.m., authorities decided to tow the Annika* to Rostock, where firefighting operations would be more manageable at a land berth. The incident occurred in the Bay of Mecklenburg, approximately 4.5 kilometers from the German coast. Precautionary measures were swiftly taken, closing both the surrounding sea area and airspace within a 3-nautical mile radius to ensure the safety of maritime and aviation traffic. Germany's Federal Accident Command has assumed control of the incident's management, with ongoing efforts to monitor the condition of the *Annika*, currently assessed as stable. The initial response was coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Bremen, under the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked (DGzRS). TERGASA TERMINAL - Rio Grande Brazil A private port with a very strict compliance to ISPS. Going ashore is permitted but you have to pass 2 gates walking to the exit climbing a high conveyor connecting to the shore, walk a few meters and would take too long for security checks and identifications. We consumed about 1hour just to be able to go out the terminal. Going back inside, they will check all your individual items and receipts. Stong current might be experienced during port stay and continuous monitoring of mooring lines especially in the forward lines to keep the vessel close to the fenders. Overall smooth operation in the terminal and reasonable cargo hold surveyors. **Caution during stay at outside anchorage while waiting for vessel to berth: 1. Vessel may encounter a sudden surge about 3-7 meters of swell different to the direction of current possible because of the geographical structure of the area and prevailing heavy weather condition in the oceanic area. 2. There are lots of foul ground and shoals in the outside anchorage and must be avoided for anchoring. 3. It is advisable to stay adrift while waiting at the outside anchorage when experiencing high swell even on a good weather 4. VTS will not advise any warnings of adverse weather condition therefore local weather must be monitored on SAT-C provided by Brazilian Navy Marine

Incident Overview: On February 15th, 2024, a distressing incident occurred in the Turkish inland Sea of Marmara, off Istanbul. The Turkish cargo ship, Batuhan A, measuring 69 meters (226 feet) in length, was en route to the Turkish port of Gemlik with a cargo of dolomite for cement manufacturing when it sank amid high waves. The vessel, with six crew members on board, issued a distress signal before dawn, leading to the initiation of a search and rescue mission. Response Actions: Rescue boats have been dispatched to the area, and efforts are underway to locate and rescue the missing crew members. Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions have hindered helicopter deployment to the incident site, emphasizing the challenging nature of the rescue operation. Current Status: Coast guard crews have discovered an empty life raft in the vicinity where the vessel is presumed to have sunk. All missing crew members are believed to be Turkish nationals. Red Sea Crisis Yemeni Houthis attacked the British oil tanker Cordelia Moon with kamikaze unmanned fishing boat. The security team on board failed to repel the boat and other hits... Bad aim? The Panama-flagged tanker Cordelia Moon suezmax became the first ship to be targeted by the Houthis yesterday this morning. An uncrewed surface vessel (USV) slammed into the ship some 64 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah in Yemen, a port city that was hit hard by the Israeli military over the weekend. On September 12th, 2024, a 15-member crew aboard the offshore supply vessel MV AM PRIDE was successfully rescued off South Africa’s southern Cape seas after their vessel caught fire and had to be abandoned. The fire broke out approximately 48.5 nautical miles south of Mossel Bay in the Western Cape province. The vessel, measuring 66.6 meters in length and 16 meters in width, was operating under the flag of the Marshall Islands. The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) reported that the fire was first detected at around 10:30 AM. The fire was located in the ship’s messroom and quickly escalated, rendering the situation critical. Adverse weather conditions, including wind gusts of up to 30 knots and 3.5-5 meter swells, further complicated rescue efforts. A MayDay relay was immediately issued by the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC) in Cape Town, requesting assistance from nearby vessels. However, the rescue operation was ultimately conducted by a PetroSA helicopter, which successfully retrieved all crew members from life-rafts and safely evacuated them to George.
