It's a great visionary move on the part of major steel companies in India to focus on sustainable steel production by recycling scrap. Companies like Tata Steel and JSW have already made major strides in setting up recycling plants to make high quality steel from scrap. Tata Steel has already commissioned its new 0.5 MnTPA Steel Recycling Plant at Rohtak, Haryana, the first such facility in India, which would process scrap procured from various market segments such as end-of-life vehicles, obsolete households, construction & demolition, industrial etc. An official statement from Tata Steel has outlined in detail how the company would process the scrap at its new facility through mechanised equipment for steel making as it ensures lower carbon emissions, resource consumption & energy utilisation. Similarly, JSW has also announced a major scrap recycling project for manufacturing steel. A news article in Hindu Business Line says that JSW has bought 30.5 acres of land in Maharashtra for setting up a metal recycling plant in joint venture with New Zealand’s metal recycler National Steel Holdings at an investment of ₹175 crore. In fact, these major companies are showing us a positive direction on how to embrace sustainable steel production and provide the much-needed raw material boost to the Indian steel industry by making available quality processed ferrous scrap and reduce the dependency on imports. Kairali TMT appreciates the initiatives taken by these major steel manufacturers in sustainable steel production. Being a socially and environmentally committed steel manufacturer, Kairali TMT will also adopt similar manufacturing processes to contribute to this positive industrial growth. Worldwide, there is already a trend to increase steel production using scrap as the main raw material. Recycling of scrap helps in conservation of vital natural resources besides other numerous benefits. According to an official statement from the Ministry of Steel, the use of every ton of scrap shall save 1.1 ton of iron ore, 630 kg of coking coal and 55 kg of limestone. There shall be considerable saving in specific energy consumption apart from reduction in water consumption and GHG emissions by 40% and 58% respectively. #steelindustry #steel #sustainability #green #greenfuture

Ultratech Cement, a leading cement manufacturer in India, has announced plans to add 100 more electric vehicles (EVs) to its logistics fleet. This move is part of the company's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and transition to sustainable transportation. The addition of these new EVs will take Ultratech's total EV fleet to 150 trucks, making it one of the largest EV truck fleets in India's cement industry. This is a significant step towards achieving the company's sustainability goals, which include reducing its carbon footprint by 25% by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050. By transitioning to EVs, Ultratech aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and lower its operating costs. EVs consume less energy than traditional diesel-powered trucks, which will help the company reduce its energy expenses. Additionally, EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, which will improve air quality and contribute to a cleaner environment. Ultratech had initially introduced 50 EV trucks in its logistics operations in 2020, and the success of this pilot project has encouraged the company to expand its EV fleet. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and will also help Ultratech comply with India's increasingly stringent emissions regulations. #Ev #evtruck #sustainability #innovation

Indian #steel production is shifting towards scrap-based methods to become more eco-friendly and resource-efficient. The National Steel Policy aims for 35-40% of steel production to come from electric arc furnaces (EAF) that use scrap by 2030. Major companies like ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS), Tata Steel, and JSW Steel are investing in scrap processing centers and EAF plants. This will significantly reduce reliance on virgin materials like #ironore and coking #coal , leading to lower carbon emissions and natural resource extraction. For instance, Tata Steel's new EAF plant in Ludhiana and its recycling plant in Rohtak are examples of this shift. JSW Steel has also acquired a scrap shredding company to secure its supply chain. This increased use of #scrap is projected to save energy, water, and #greenhouse gas emissions while reducing reliance on expensive #imports .
