Take advantage of your moment. Before walking across the stage I thought about what I would do in the moment that they called my name at my law school graduation ceremony in May 2022. Since my high school graduation, I have always struck a pose either before or after I received my diploma, and my law school graduation was not going to be any different. Despite being hospitalized in of a blood transfusion and undergoing subsequent colonoscopy and endoscopy while in law school, I still graduated with my class. Despite all of that also happening during a global pandemic, I still graduated. So when the time came for me to walk across that stage, I knew what I was going to do. After my name was announced and I was still on stage, I blew a kiss to the crowd and took a bow. That’s what you see in this picture here. Me taking advantage of my moment as it was captured on camera. In that moment, all of the attention was on me. All of the recognition I deserved was being given to me. And I took advantage of it. However, in that moment, I had no idea that this moment would live on. Since then, this very picture has been used in Seattle University School of Law’s graduation brochure for several or more graduation ceremonies. Future graduates that may have never heard of me, saw me in their graduation brochures. All because I took advantage of my moment. I encourage you all to take advantage of your moment. Do not sell yourself short of something you have earned and the opportunity to share it. Be brave and most important be bold. Take advantage of your moment. #lawschool #dreams #attorney #seattle

Giving Day at Cornell Law School is also Pi Day (3.14)! In honor of all our favorite Pi(e)s (🥧🍕♾️), here are three ways you can be a “piece” of something bigger: 🎓 Fuel scholarship support for talented students. Today, 8 in 10 Cornell Law students receive scholarships and financial aid. As a result, the debt load of students at graduation is lower than it has been in many years. With your support, this exciting trend will continue. 📚 Provide resources to Cornell Law’s unique clinics and practicums. These programs help Cornell Law students acquire the practical skills and experience to represent a diversity of clients in need of legal services. Your support funds 27 specialized clinics and practicums that provide life-changing learning opportunities. 🇺🇸 Support veterans in need of legal services. The Veterans Law Practicum provides a vital service to our community’s veterans. With your help, we can expand our services, and enable students and faculty to increase their caseloads. When we join forces as one Cornell Law community for #CornellGivingDay, we can make a remarkable impact. Join us on Thursday for celebration of the promise and potential of the next generation of Cornell lawyers. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3PcrFNG

Good Evening Everyone! On September 23rd, I had the opportunity to tour the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill School of Law and engage with the Admissions Advisor, alongside the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Inc. NCCU Chapter. This experience not only provided valuable insights into the law school environment but also strengthened my resolve to pursue a legal education after graduation. I am eager to take the next steps in my academic journey! #LawSchool #UNC #PhiAlphaDelta #FutureLawyer

Last week, I (sadly) bid farewell to my exceptional and thoughtful students in my Critical Race Studies course at University of California, Hastings College of the Law (now UC Law San Francisco). In these times, it is crucial to methodically study how law shapes race and vice versa. I am grateful for all that I have learned and continue to learn from my students and friends in the Critical Race Studies Program at University of California, Los Angeles - School of Law. #criticalracestudies #racematters #lawschool #lawprofessor

This is a wildly inspiring article about one Ivy Tech student's journey. Career coaches are just one piece of the ecosystem of caring higher education professionals at Ivy Tech who have the honor of impacting lives every day. #ivytech #indianapolis #careercoaching #careerlink #communitycolleges
I am so honored to be included in Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis’s news page this week!! This article highlights my journey from college dropout to incoming 1L at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, and the critical role Ivy Tech played in reshaping my academic and professional careers. Special thanks to Shakkira Harris for writing this piece, and allowing me the opportunity to share my story and hopefully inspire current and future Ivy Tech students. And big shoutout to all my Ivy Tech professors who supported me along the way, including Lara O’Dell, the amazing professor, attorney, mother, advisor, and survivor, who never stopped believing in me. ❤️ You can read the article here: https://lnkd.in/edFeiTjU

Ever wonder why I swapped a thriving law career for CollegeAdmissions.com? Let me tell you why. Imagine shelling out up to $200k for college counseling. 🤯 It’s happening, right now. As detailed in this article in today's WSJ, kids as young as 11 are being prepped by pricey consultants for Ivy League dreams. The reality? High percentages of those admitted are backed by these private services—many funded by Wall Street's elite, leaving deserving students in the dust. I detailed this in my best-seller, Breaking Into College: The Underground College Admissions Playbook. Rather than grumble about this imbalance, I chose action. CollegeAdmissions.com is for parents ready to make a change: ✅ Ensure all students get a fair shot, regardless of financial background ✅ Make expert guidance accessible to everyone ✅ Focus on the child’s dreams, not parental desire for prestige I climbed from humble beginnings to an Ivy League degree and a top law school. This path should be open to all. Let's replace “wealthy sheep” with diverse, brilliant minds. If you're a parent seeking real change for your teenager, join us at CollegeAdmissions.com. Your child deserves better....and our community resources are free.

What a great travel season this fall! I had the opportunity to share information about the Case Western Reserve University School of Law all over the country, including schools in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia, and more. What I have learned from my conversations with prospective students are that they are so passionate about pursuing careers as lawyers and about advocating for clients. The future of the legal field definitely looks bright! #lawschool #cwru

I asked five law students what difficult internal conversations they’re avoiding with themselves and here’s what they had to say: —I keep telling myself I’ll work on my fitness routine once [the reading is done, once finals are over, once I’m done with the bar]. But I don’t. I keep eating poorly and not working out. I know I need to set myself straight but I’m believing that law school stress keeps me unfit. —I’m uncomfortable at my law school because I’m the only Black law student in my section and one of three in my entire class. I need to stand up for myself and own my place or transfer out but I let discomfort keep me from deciding. The internal conversation cycle drains me. —I need to work through and tell myself that the little girl in me would be proud. —I need to accept [my late mother’s] flaws and tell myself that she is proud of me, from heaven. I’m avoiding this topic like the plague. —Lisa, I’ve never considered having a conversation with myself. When you asked me this, I honestly stared at the screen… The depth these students poured into answering this question floored me—I wish I could include the entirety of their responses and beautiful reflections. Where are you avoiding a hard conversation in your life that would make law school or the practice, better? #lawstudents #lawschool #lawstudent
