🛡️ Advancing Workplace Safety: A Collaborative Effort   Last week, the Employers' Federation of Pakistan, Pakistan Workers Federation and Labour & Human Resource Department, Government of Punjab, came together at their collectively organised event supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The event focused on reiterating joint commitments to foster a prevention culture at workplaces.   🎯 Promoting occupational health and safety (OSH) culture lies at the heart of the Punjab Prevention Strategy on Safety, Health and Wellbeing, with events like this serving as vital components to achieve its objectives.   👷♀️👷During the event, the stakeholders in attendance also reflected on the impact of climate change on OSH. I am excited to share with you our recent publication titled "Development of an Educational Program for Occupational Health and Safety in Saudi Arabia." This paper represents a significant milestone and addresses a critical need in our country's workforce. Occupational health and safety (OHS) is a topic of utmost importance, ensuring the well-being of workers and fostering a safe working environment. As Saudi Arabia experiences rapid industrialization and economic growth, it becomes imperative to tackle the challenges and concerns surrounding workplace safety. This led us to develop an educational program specifically tailored to the Saudi Arabian context, aiming to equip workers, employers, and stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. Work smart not hard

Occupational Safety and Health Act (No15- 2007 of Kenya) requires every workplace to be registered under DOSH. However, out of 17000 sampled workplaces, only 0.7% were registered by 2017. This violation attracts a penalty of up 3 months imprisonment or 7 days for every 1 day violated after the court finds violation. This simple form is self explanatory but but very critical. In most cases, if improperly filled, the DOSH department can reject it. To avoid this inconvenience, simply involve a safety advisor or officer who will help identify the potential hazards and analyze their risk, mitigate and give a review. He can go ahead and prepare a very nice safety policy statement. A good safety advisor won't just tick the boxes.
