A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of moderating a panel discussion at Bett Global on supporting children with EBSA ( emotionally based school avoidance). I just heard that there were 160 people in the audience. While I'm happy that so many people chose to attend our discussion, I'm also saddened that educators, parents and their children/young people are not getting the support they need. As I get ready to get my own children ready to go back to school after the half-term break, I'm reflecting on my own family's experience around this in the past. At the same time, I'm thinking of all the parents/carers who are struggling with this and the educators who are actively trying to support them. Last year, I recorded a webinar for The National College on managing transitions, not just at the start of the school year or from primary to secondary, but also throughout the school year and the school day. If you're preparing to go back after the half-term break, it might be worth a watch. I hope you find it useful. There is also this guide from THE ANNA FREUD CENTRE https://lnkd.in/e7n5RV2j And a great blog from a headteacher who experienced this as a parent with his own child. https://lnkd.in/eajZ2y92 We really need to find a different way because what we're doing now is just not working. https://lnkd.in/ebkGikMD #EBSA #transitions #transitionsuccess #education #educationaltransformation #educationforall #relationshipsmatter #traumainformed

Daily Tips for Compassionate Care—Upholding Mental Health Rights Through Trauma Awareness for Children, Youth, and Their Families. 🌟 Day 4 of the 30-Day Challenge: Understanding Trauma 🌟 Safety is a fundamental cornerstone of the healing process. By fostering environments where individuals feel secure and comfortable expressing their emotions, we cultivate trust and build meaningful connections. This sense of safety encourages open communication, allowing individuals to share their experiences without fear of judgment or repercussions. As a result, we create a supportive atmosphere that is conducive to emotional and psychological healing, ultimately promoting well-being and resilience.
