This replaces the previous Regulated Rate Option (RRO). Energy bills to fall again from July under new cap. A typical household's energy bill will fall by £122 a year from July under the new price cap. The latest quarterly cap for England, Wales and Scotland means a household using a typical amount of gas and electricity will pay £1,568 a year. It means that bills will be the lowest for two years. The cap, set by the regulator Ofgem, limits the maximum price that can be charged for each unit of gas and electricity - not the total bill

Changes to the electricity market rules to help ensure an affordable, reliable and sustainable grid are coming into effect July 1. We are making changes to the rules around economic withholding as part of the ongoing work to help protect Albertans from prolonged spikes in electricity prices. The changes will help make utility bills more affordable while ensuring sufficient power is available when it is needed most. Our power grid operates through generators offering to sell their electricity. Lowest-priced electricity is bought and used first. However, sometimes generators will offer output at very high prices to recoup production costs. This is called withholding and can result in high prices for consumers when done by large generators. Alberta’s current rules around withholding were designed in the early 2000s. The changes we’re making are better designed for the electricity system we have today. Electricity prices have dropped by almost 60% in the last year. Between August 2023 and August 2024, the average monthly price for default electricity rates in the province decreased from 32.27 cents per kilowatt hour to 13.19. But; if you are on the default rate you are still paying 30% more than you would if you had a fixed term price with NewGen Energy. https://lnkd.in/g9xYc-zS newgen-energy.ca
