We're looking to raise £20,000 to: - Keep the project alive and cover costs -Fund training so we can increase our volunteer network - Create a paid coordinator role to manage operations - Return to the heart of Frome: Bring a fridge back to the town centre - Open a new Community Fridge at Frome College Did you know the Community Fridge was launched by a team of Edventure Start-Up students in 2016? One million lives in communities across Ireland have been impacted by Rethink Ireland. The phenomenal work of Deirdre Mortell and her team, donors and awardees has culminated in a €109 Million fund, built over seven years. 👏   At a recent celebration with donors and awardee organisations, Rethink Ireland launched a report that documents the transformative impact this fund will have. This report documents that the €109 Million fund has: ✅ Reached over one million people ✅ Launched 58 funds ✅ Backed 448 innovative projects ✅ Supported 137,134 learners ✅ Created 998 jobs in the non-profit sector, supporting 3,309 people into employment   Rethink Ireland is bringing systems change through groundbreaking social innovation in cities, towns and communities across Ireland. You probably know about our trusts fundraising work, but do you know that we facilitate away days and strategic planning workshops too? In 2022, our Director Mike worked with CDP to design and facilitate a three-day, in-person workshop for their Cities, States and Regions Team, to help create their new strategy and discuss challenges and opportunities. CDP is a global NGO and UK-registered charity that focuses investors, companies, cities and governments on building a sustainable economy, by measuring and acting on their environmental impact. We worked with their Strategy Manager to understand CDP’s objectives for the workshop, then co-design a stimulating three-day agenda - drawing on our experience of strategic exercises that worked well with other charities, how long to allow for key discussions, and how to get the most out of the available time without overwhelming people. After three days of intensive and fascinating conversations, we headed back to HQ with a dazzling collection of flipcharts, post-its and other notes, which we then wrote up into a final report to provide a foundation for the team’s new three-year strategy. And we're pretty chuffed with the feedback received 😁

“Businesses don’t describe themselves as Not-for-Loss, why should charities be described as Not-for-Profit?” Last week, I attended an inspiring evening at Macquarie Business School. Titled Catalysts for Change: Strategies for Leading Social Impact, it featured three extraordinary leaders: Ronni Kahn AO founder of OzHarvest, The Hon Kristina Keneally CEO of Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) and Simon Miller CEO of Anglicare Sydney. These leaders shared their insights and experiences in leading social impact across politics, business, and social ventures. The night was all about exploring the power of values, leveraging experience, and seizing opportunities to drive change. From tackling food waste and supporting sick children to reshaping aged care for an aging population, each speaker demonstrated how values and purpose fuel their mission. Ronni Kahn AO invited us into an exclusive order, to find out what you need to buy her book… We walked away challenged to consider our impact—so, what's yours? I've just read this report on funding of environmental organisations, and have some observations that I don't often hear voiced (except perhaps the last one): - It’s hard to ask for core costs without a distinctive offer. There are 46 Wildlife Trusts, 60 Rivers Trusts, etc. These orgs often do the hard grind of what needs doing - they're immensely important - but on the face of it, why would a funder give one core costs and not another? This pushes applications towards project funding requests, to demonstrate distinctiveness, and neglecting core cost requests - even with funders that will support core costs. - Funders overwhelmingly want environmental projects to demonstrate community involvement. I think community work is hugely valuable. But sometimes you just need to get boring hard work done by a professional. Funders largely aren’t interested in this, or may not fund qualified internal staff to do it (vs consultants). - Theories of change should be part of strategy development. But in my experience, bid writers are often the ones who step up to facilitate this in order to ask for money, because senior/project staff have no time or headspace to do the work in advance. I suspect many of those 2/3 cited in the report who lack a theory of change do actually have this embedded in their bids – just not in their strategy. - There are surprisingly few environmental funders accepting a broad range of unsolicited proposals for multi-year projects.

One of the most profound case studies I’ve had to do during business management studies was on corporate social responsibility and the many weeks spent poring over it highlighted for me the critical role companies play in giving back to the society that supports their success. As businesses thrive and profit, they have a responsibility to contribute positively to the communities they serve. It is more than just financial contributions; it's a reflection of a company’s values and commitment to making a positive impact on society. It's about being a responsible corporate citizen, and showing that your business is about more than just profits—it's about people, the community, the society and the planet too. In today’s business landscape, where consumers and employees lean towards purpose-driven organisations, integrating philanthropy into a brand’s value proposition isn't just a nice-to-have; it really should be a must-have. Whether it's through financial donations, volunteer programs, or sustainable practices, every effort counts toward building a better future.
