This is the world’s first grid-supportive solar hydrogen home – and it’s ready to power through winter❄️⬇️ Today, most buildings with PV systems and batteries have a major challenge. Too much electricity in summer and too little in winter. This places an increasing burden on distribution grids. And it requires fossil reserve power plants. This is where the #FlexEhome steps in. Its goal: • Providing both thermal & electrical energy self-sufficiency • While being able to contribute to the grid • Supplying energy very second of the year At its core is #picea, a long-term energy storage system by our partner HPS Home Power Solutions AG that draws on Enapter’s #AEM Electrolyser tech. A good year has passed now since a family moved into the building near Berlin. ▶️Time to take stock as the dark season has already begun: Picea has converted excess summer solar power into green hydrogen: With 3,000 kWh of H2 fully stored, the FlexEhome is ready for winter’s dark months. It even took advantage of sunny October days to top up the H2 supply. Hydrogen, being a gas, contracts as temperatures drop. This means storage pressure decreases with colder weather, even at full capacity. So, in October – and even one day in November – picea produced extra H2 to fill the newly available space. Combined with a heat pump and fuel cell waste heat, this system maximises energy use for the family through the cold season. Every house in Scotland should have this technology fitted.

Exciting news: HPS goes international! To meet the growing demand, our German partner HPS Home Power Solutions AG expands to Austria and Switzerland. The first units will be installed from 2025. https://go.enapter.com/p0B0F

One question - why feed the excess energy back into the grid? Would it not be better to use it to fill a communal H2 store which could perhaps be used for vehicle refuelling, powering streetlights or something similar?

We are interested in solution having Hydrogen based power backup systems to supply uninterrupted celectrical power to our CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture) Projects We are deploying Solar-Agro Projects in large numbers that are combination of Agriculture Project and Solar PV Power Project These Solar PV Power Projects will be Roof Integrated Solar PV Projects Roof Integrated Solar PV Projects will be built using Venlo Glass Greenhouse type roofing system and using Glass-Glass type Solar PV Modules in place of plain glass panels These type of Solar-Agro Projects will always harvest solar elericity per day, that is more than the consumtion by Agriculture Project and/or Agriculture related project, below the Solar Roof The excess electrical energy harvested by Solar PV Power Project will be used to produce Green Hydrogen and converted in to eFuels

Interesting solution. I’m curious why the storage is limited to 3000kWh as that would probably not be enough to get through the entire winter. I have everything electrified at my home including solar panels and we would need dubbel to make it to spring.
