Clear policy direction on the role of natural gas and lower-carbon fuels in Ontario’s energy system is critical to provide clarity to utilities, regulators, investors, and customers, said Heidi Bredenholler-Prasad, Vice President Commercial, Strategy, and Business Development at Enbridge Gas. She was speaking at the Canadian Gas Association’s Energy Nexus Conference as part of a panel entitled “Regulating Tomorrow: The Future of Gas Energy Regulation.” Bredenholler-Prasad said, “Our industry needs an efficient regulatory process where we can have certainty that we can deliver energy projects to support housing growth and economic growth.” She added it’s important the economic regulator protects customers from risk, not progress, as companies make advancements and investments in energy infrastructure and technologies. Bredenholler-Prasad was joined on the panel by Dave Forestell, Vice President, Canada External Relations, TC Energy, and Amanda Ward, Vice President, Regulatory, Legal & Gas Supply, Pacific Northern Gas. Michael Cleland, Executive in Residence, Positive Energy Program University of Ottawa and past President of the Canadian Gas Association, moderated the panel. #EnergyFuture #Regulatory #CGAEnergyNexus Dave Forestell Amanda Ward Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. To assess current investor sentiment towards North American natural gas utilities, the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) and American Gas Association (AGA) partnered with MCR Performance Solutions on a recent study. Notably, all investors surveyed anticipate a long-term role for natural gas. “Investing in utilities is a wise choice, offering investors secure opportunities for long-term growth and dependable returns,” said paul cheliak, CGA Vice President of Strategy and Delivery. “As Canada’s population grows, with its diverse geography, unique climate needs, and abundant natural gas supply, natural gas infrastructure will continue to deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable gas energy today and in the future.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gEwH495n Access the full study here: https://lnkd.in/g7F4UwVF #NaturalGas #UtilityInvestment #ReliableEnergy

Leader of the Opposition The Hon. Peter Dutton MP this morning reinforced that gas remains “essential for affordable and reliable energy for all Australians… as we transition to new energy system”. “Worldwide, natural gas demand is forecast to rise between 2022 and 2050 by 34 per cent (and) the Asia Pacific will be a key area of growth,” he said. “The proportion of gas as part of the region’s energy mix is forecast to increase from 11 to 16 per cent by 2050. These figures and trends are revealing. “We will stand up for our gas industry – recognising the crucial role it plays in meeting our national energy goals.” Addressing delegates on the final day of the Australian Energy Producers Conference, Mr Dutton highlighted his plan to turbocharge resources sector projects for the benefit of the nation. It follows Mr Dutton's welcome Budget-in-Reply speech outlining the Federal Opposition’s plan to boost Australia’s energy and economic security by unlocking new gas production and fast-tracking urgently needed gas projects. 🔗 Read today's full speech here: https://lnkd.in/gp4ZsGXf #EnergyProducersConf

Our Executive Vice President Marketing and Trading Mark Abbotsford shared our plans to make more gas available for Australian customers at the Australian Domestic Gas Outlook conference in Sydney today. He said we are in the process of finalising arrangements with the West Australian Government to make more gas available for the local market very soon. We believe this proposed commitment, coupled with recent demand-side effects will largely address the forecast supply shortfall in WA. On the east coast, we intend to initiate an expression of interest process for 50 petajoules of gas across 2025 and 2026. These plans demonstrate our steadfast commitment to ensuring Australians have access to reliable and secure energy and will build on our proud 40-year history as a supplier of domestic gas. #energy #naturalgas #domesticgas

Best invest in Building Fusion power, space, and maritime propulsion systems and industry, You talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. Government's position on Natural gas needs to be backup with tangible support. David Westman Westman, tasked with achieving Labor’s goal of 82% renewable electricity, claims natural gas is essential for ensuring reliability in the eastern grid. Yet, this statement rings hollow given the government’s actions, which have consistently hindered progress in the gas sector. Federal and state governments have delayed critical approvals, such as the decade-long wait for the Narrabri gas project. Additionally, government-funded bodies like the Environmental Defenders Office have launched costly legal challenges against producers, discouraging private investment. There is little evidence that the government intends to create a secure investment environment for the gas exploration and development industry. If natural gas truly plays such an essential role in grid reliability, then Westman’s statement deserves honest clarification on how the government plans to back this vision with tangible support.

In a letter to the Toronto Sun, Malini Giridhar, Vice President, Business Development & Regulatory at Enbridge Gas, refutes the assertion by NDP MPP Peter Tabuns - in an article he wrote that was published by the Sun - that natural gas customers are paying a “subsidy” to cover the costs of expanding natural gas infrastructure. (View Malini’s full Toronto Sun letter-to-editor response here: https://lnkd.in/eiESMmrG) “Enbridge Gas abides by an existing Ontario Energy Board (OEB) regulation that protects existing natural gas customers from the cost of expanding the natural gas system and ensures costs are appropriately borne by the customers who will benefit from the new infrastructure,” Malini wrote in her letter. She added: “This regulation allows the cost to connect to the natural gas system to be spread over a defined time period, which has historically been — as approved by the OEB — up to 40 years.” #NaturalGas #OnPoli

The government has announced a significant increase in the price of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) for the month of March 2024. This decision comes amidst various factors impacting the energy sector, including international market dynamics and domestic supply challenges. The move is expected to have implications across various sectors, including manufacturing, power generation, and domestic consumers. As stakeholders assess the ramifications of this price adjustment, discussions surrounding energy policies, sustainability, and economic considerations are likely to gain prominence #RLNGPriceHike #EnergySector #March2024 #GovernmentDecision

Power Advisory has published a good overview of the electricity market changes announced by the Alberta government this week, including the very helpful table below that compares the MSA's Enhanced Energy Market (EEM) recommendations and the AESO's Restructured Energy Market (REM) recommendations. My recommendation is to agree on a common name :-) Check out the Power Advisory article in the link below. I've also provided a link to the new Market Power Mitigation Regulation for those interested.
