Biomethane - a green commodity As we accelerate towards a sustainable energy future, biomethane is emerging as a powerful player in the global energy transition. This renewable natural gas, produced from organic waste sources like agricultural residues, food waste, and sewage, offers a circular economy solution that not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also tackles waste management challenges. By capturing methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, biomethane production delivers double environmental benefits while providing a versatile energy source for heating, electricity generation, and transportation. What makes biomethane particularly attractive is its compatibility with existing natural gas infrastructure. Unlike many other renewable alternatives that require significant infrastructure overhaul, biomethane can be readily injected into current gas networks, making it a practical and cost-effective transition fuel. This advantage is especially crucial for industries that are hard to decarbonize, such as heavy transport, manufacturing, and industrial heating processes, where biomethane can serve as a direct replacement for fossil natural gas while maintaining operational efficiency. The potential for biomethane to contribute to energy security cannot be overstated. As geopolitical tensions continue to impact traditional energy supply chains, locally produced biomethane offers countries an opportunity to enhance their energy independence while supporting rural economies. According to recent industry reports, global biomethane production could meet up to 20% of today's natural gas demand, representing a significant opportunity for sustainable growth. It's time for policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to recognize biomethane's role in achieving our net-zero ambitions and accelerate its deployment across the energy landscape. #Veolia has recognised the importance of biomethane and made it an integral part of the Group’s GreenUp strategy with a significant commitment to invest in the Bioenergy space in the coming years. #GreenUp #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #CleanTech #EnergyTransition #NetZero

📢 Today, Verra released a new cookstoves methodology in the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program! 🫕We are excited to introduce VCS Methodology VM0050 Energy Efficiency and Fuel-Switch Measures in Cookstoves, v1.0. VM0050 is a comprehensive and robust new methodology that provides a high-integrity approach to quantifying emission reductions from energy efficiency and fuel-switch measures (i.e., involving the replacement of fossil fuels and non-renewable biomass) in cookstoves. Implementing sustainable cooking practices is an urgent need throughout least developed countries. Such practices improve livelihoods and gender equity, benefit health and air quality, preserve ecosystems, and reduce CO2 emissions. ➡️ Drawing on Verra’s longstanding experience in this sector, VM0050 reflects the latest best practices, as well as the most recent science and technology in project design and implementation of cookstoves, including streamlined monitoring approaches such as direct measurement techniques that strengthen the reliability and accuracy in determining project fuel/energy consumption and stove use. ⬅️ Verra is also submitting this methodology today for assessment under the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) Assessment Framework of The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). The development of VM0050 was led by atmosphere alternative. This release follows extensive internal review, a public consultation, and a review by a validation/verification body.
