Accountability and helping to deliver customers an energy system that's affordable, reliable and sustainable was in sharp focus at the Energy Charter’s annual Joint Accountability Forum in Brisbane yesterday. This year marks six years since Energy Queensland became a foundation signatory to The Energy Charter to help foster better collaboration and accountability through the energy transition. Our Michael Dart - Chief Customer Officer and Board Director joined CS Energy CE Darren Busine and Powerlink CEO Paul Simshauser, together with Energy Charter CEO Sabiene Heindl, for a panel discussion and Q&A session. Maintaining accountability and transparency is at the heart of the Energy Charter and panellists discussed topics spanning everything from energy affordability for customers, to operating under social licence and the recent change of government. It was also an opportunity to highlight some of the work our business is doing to improve customer outcomes through initiatives such as our Customer Strategy Refresh, Local Renewable Energy Zones in Townsville and the Sunshine Coast, plus the 30 neighbourhood battery locations underway. Special shout-out, too, to Ergon Retail EGM Ayesha Razzaq and Customer Advocacy Manager Kenny Mizzi for their support with the session. 📸 Michael Dart, Paul Simshauser, Sabiene Heindl and Darren Busine. #energycharter #LREZ #neighbourhoodbatteries #energytransition

Good afternoon Whanau. I’m back in #New Zealand. 😊 Unfortunately, I had to watch our country grappling with serious energy scarcity whilst I was away. Addressing our energy supply imbalance and diversity is now our top priority. We need to ensure the lights stay on, businesses remain operational, and energy is affordable. An obvious solution to boost our supply is through energy efficiency. This means minimising peak demand, optimising and reducing overall demand, and using our energy more dynamically, especially as we integrate more renewables into our system. Please join me for a discussion with our expert panellists, including Dr Marcos Pelenur - Chief Executive, EECA (Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority); Dr Chris Mardon - Founder, Energy Mad and Ecobulb; Sam Elder - General Manager Energy Futures, Orion NZ Limited and Roger Sutton - Principal Strategy Advisor, DETA (Facilitator). We will explore how business can manage elevated energy prices through #Efficiency, explore emerging technologies that hold the most promise for improving energy efficiency, how we can unlock additional demand-side response at residential, industrial, and commercial level and more. Large infrastructure projects drive system-wide changes, but the newly released NSW Consumer Energy Resources (CER) Strategy takes a different approach — making it easier for individuals and small businesses to take direct action. It offers practical incentives to do things like switch to energy-efficient appliances or install rooftop solar. While these actions may seem small, when multiplied across the state, they create a powerful ripple effect. Here's what's new and coming as part of the NSW Consumer Energy Resources strategy: - Battery Incentives Households can access $1,600 to $2,400 in incentives for purchasing solar batteries, with an additional $250 incentive for joining a virtual power plant (VPP). (Available from November 2024) - Home Energy Saver Program A $238.9 million investment in the Home Energy Saver program to help lower energy bills and reduce emissions. (Launching mid-2025) - Community Energy Projects A new $5 million program to support community energy initiatives, empowering communities to actively participate in the energy transition and reduce bills. Every little step counts in building a cleaner, greener future. https://bit.ly/3B490iR #NSWEnergy #NetZero #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency #ClimateAction #SmallStepsBigImpact Dan Repacholi Chad Griffith Penny Sharpe

Though #EnergyAwarenessMonth is ending, we remain committed to energy-efficient transportation. We began our focus on energy analysis seven years ago through a partnership with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to audit their system’s energy intensity with eyes to opening the door to exploring technologies that are now standard, but at the time were assumed to be the future. We analyzed operational improvements like bus priority for fuel and energy savings and evaluated alternative fuels, including the newly emerging (at the time) #BatteryElectricBuses (BEBs). This early work continues to guide our ongoing efforts in energy efficiency and green transportation solutions. #Sustainability #GreenTranportation #BEBs

A few years ago, under the Ontario Government’s MicroFit program, we installed this advanced solar system on the Glebe Parking Garage. This installation is a shining example of how solar energy can be seamlessly integrated into urban infrastructure. The City of Ottawa benefits greatly from this system by selling the generated energy back to the grid, creating a sustainable profit stream. It's a win-win situation: clean energy production, reduced carbon footprint, and economic gain. #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPowerExpert #UrbanInnovation #CleanEnergy #Ottawa #MicroFitProgram #SustainableProfit #EnvironmentalImpact

I thoroughly enjoyed discussing the post-election challenges in the energy market at the Cornwall Insight conference on Tuesday. We asked our audience of energy experts what the primary focus should be in consumer decarbonisation, and as we can see from the results, there's a lot to think about! Some of the key areas we discussed: 👉 The 15% fall in gas consumption in the business sector, triggered mostly by price impact over the last two years in the I&C market, alongside ambitions to reduce gas consumption in the near term 👉 The divergence in approach to decarbonisation in the business market, with some large corporates engaging in complex change, compared to focus on affordability/energy efficiency for smaller businesses. Opportunity to engage with the "next stage" of power decarbonisation and energy services driven by consumers, rather than top-down 👉 Managing additional power consumption for households and businesses through heat pumps and EV consumption, including potential to reduce operating costs through rebalancing policy levies to taxation (potential to save £150-£200/year) 👉 Incentives, appeal and cost of heat pumps - lots of personal stories highlighting the huge challenge to decarbonise heat with ~30mn homes and businesses connected to gas 👉 Consistent (but not rising) momentum in EV uptake, and concerns about inequality in EV charging costs for those with no access to off-street parking

A significant milestone for our region! At Tomato Energy , we see the last coal delivery to Ratcliffe-on-Soar as a powerful symbol of the UK's shift towards a greener future. While it's the end of an era, it's also an exciting new beginning. Our vision of empowering local communities with solar and energy storage aligns perfectly with this transition. As coal-fired plants shut down, we're stepping up to fill the gap with clean, community-led energy solutions. The potential transformation of Ratcliffe Power Station into a zero-carbon hub is particularly inspiring. It shows how we can reimagine our energy infrastructure for a sustainable future. We're not just watching this change happen – we're driving it forward. Our rollout of rooftop solar and storage systems across the UK is helping communities take control of their energy, reduce costs, and cut emissions. The era of fossil fuels is winding down, but the future of energy is bright. We're excited to be at the forefront of this revolution, helping to build a cleaner, more sustainable UK powered by the communities we serve.

Lots to digest from the NSW Consumer Energy Strategy announced last week. The strategy outlined 50 actions the NSW Government intends to take over the next two years to make it easier for households and businesses to benefit from the energy transition. Highlights for me: - Ambitious but achievable targets (1 million homes/small businesses with access to rooftop solar and batteries by 2035). - New Home Energy Saver program ($239m over 4 years). Details to follow. - Review of and potential enhancements to the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) & Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS). - Voluntary disclosure of home energy performance at the point of sale or lease, with a view to making this mandatory. - Development of new model by-laws to help strata complexes overcome the legal hurdle of adding energy-saving technologies. A formal progress update is scheduled for late 2026. Details below.

Thanks to the emergence of virtual power plants (#VPPs), California is poised for an unprecedented energy revolution. The Brattle Group’s recent report forecasts the potential for VPPs to surge to 7.5 GW by 2035, exceeding 15% of peak demand. Beyond the numbers, this is about empowerment. Californian consumers could see savings of $550 million per year if the adoption of this technology continues. The tangible benefits of VPPs puts money back into the pockets of homeowners. Sunnova Energy is committed to this journey, and our investments to expand the Sunnova VPP network across multiple states enable more homeowners, and the environment, to enjoy these benefits. Our strategic expansion not only helps reduce power plant pollution but also leverages surplus power to promote environmental sustainability and financial freedom. More from Renewable Energy World.
