He is the founder of both JRES & AREC. He was working in the field of Renewable Energy since 1988 (Solar PV & Green Building) as Project Manager and Researcher and publish more than 25 papers. From 1999-2007 he was the project manager for Renewable energy in King Abdullah the Second Design&Development Bureau (KADDB). In 2002 he was the Project manager for the Jordanian Solar Car & Zero Fossil Fuel House (Eco House for KADDB) Project manager. He was the Vice Director of Energy Center at University of Jordan from 2007 until 2008 where he worked as the founder of this center. He was the founder of the Global Net for Renewable Energy in the Desert regions (GNREADER). Also was the Chairman of Renewable energy committee in Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology and ambassador of the DONG Energy solar challenge events in the Middle East countries (World Cup for Solar Powered Boats). According to PwC’s newly released Africa Energy Review 2024: Driving energy access through collaboration North Africa’s energy landscape is evolving with a strong oil and gas sector alongside a growing emphasis on renewable energy sources that include wind, solar and green hydrogen. “Key players like Egypt, Algeria and Morocco are using their resource wealth to transition towards renewables while maintaining their positions as natural gas exporters.   “In East Africa, countries like Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania are making strides in expanding renewable energy and improving rural electrification. With major projects like the Lake Turkana Wind Farm, Kenya has achieved over 75% electricity access and aims for 100% renewable generation by 2030.   “Meanwhile, Southern Africa has positioned itself as a leader in renewable energy development—particularly in solar and wind, with South Africa dominating the region’s investments. “Namibia is focusing on renewable buildout to support green hydrogen production, capitalising on its abundant solar and wind resources, with its oil and gas finds likely to make it a new regional energy hub.   “Despite significant advancements across these regions, challenges remain in infrastructure and financing, underscoring the need for continued investment and collaboration to meet growing energy demands and a transition to sustainable energy systems,” says Pedro Omontuemhen, PwC Africa Oil and Gas Leader. At COP29 Azerbaijan in #Baku, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), the UAE’s clean energy powerhouse, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SOCAR Green, a wholly-owned subsidiary of State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) dedicated to sustainable projects, and Saudi-listed ACWA Power, the world’s largest private water desalination company, leader in #energytransition and first mover into #greenhydrogen, to develop 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind projects in the #Azerbaijan section of the #CaspianSea. The potential projects would be Azerbaijan’s first offshore wind farms. The agreement supports plans by Azerbaijan to develop #renewableenergy, green #hydrogen and water desalination projects. Under the agreement, the signing parties will follow a Corporation Roadmap to identify key development milestones they want to achieve in the development of #offshorewind in the country. The new offshore wind projects will contribute to Azerbaijan’s growing #renewable energy portfolio and complement Masdar’s existing projects, which include Masdar’s landmark 230MW capacity Garadagh #solarpower plant, along with the 315MW Neftchala Solar Power Plant and 445MW Bilasuvar Solar Power Plant, both jointly developed with SOCAR Green; and ACWA Power’s 240MW Khizi-Absheron #windpower plant. These initiatives are designed to enhance energy security, create jobs and drive #sustainable economic growth in Azerbaijan. This aligns with the consortium’s commitment to support Azerbaijan’s transition to net-zero emissions by 2050. Norway's Scatec ASA and a consortium led by Orascom Construction PLC have secured lands for ambitious wind power projects totaling 8 gigawatts (GW) in Egypt's Sohag Governorate. These projects, involving a substantial investment of $9 billion, are among the largest onshore wind power initiatives not just in the Middle East but globally. Scatec will develop a 5 GW project, while the Orascom-led consortium will tackle a 3 GW project, both designed to support Egypt’s goal of increasing renewable energy to 42% of its mix by 2030. These developments are expected to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions—by approximately 17 million tons annually. They also aim to generate roughly 18,000 direct and indirect jobs, highlighting the socio-economic benefits alongside environmental impacts. This move aligns with global efforts under the Paris Agreement to shift towards renewable energy, reflecting Egypt's commitment to enhancing its energy security and sustainability. Foreign firms keen on renewable energy business in Sarawak Summary: Sarawak is poised to receive significant investments in large-scale solar power projects from multinational companies based in China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that Shanghai Electric and China Three Gorges International Ltd are considering a combined investment of US$10 billion, while Masdar, a state-owned clean energy provider from the UAE, is also planning a US$10 billion investment. These investments aim to generate an estimated 3GW of solar power. Sarawak has the potential to produce at least 3,000MW of electricity from floating solar panels on existing hydroelectric dams, such as the 2,400MW Bakun dam and the 944MW Murum dam, which could contribute 500MW and 600MW, respectively. The 1,285MW Baleh dam, currently under construction, is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2028. The 50MW floating solar farm on the Batang Ai hydro dam reservoir, Malaysia’s largest hybrid hydro-solar facility, is expected to be commissioned in October 2024. This project, a joint venture between Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB), China Power International Holdings, and Trina Solar, represents a significant step in Sarawak's renewable energy development. SEB is also evaluating the feasibility of a second phase of the Batang Ai floating solar facility, which could add up to 160MW capacity. Masdar and SEB signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on clean energy development in Sarawak during the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai in December 2023. Masdar aims to develop gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in Malaysia and other Asian countries. Cristina Roque. The two companies reaffirmed their investment plans during Roque’s visit to the United Arab Emirates on October 3-5, the trade chief told the Philippine News Agency. Roque said DP World plans to invest P25 billion to develop ports across the country while Masdar plans to invest at least P600 million on renewable energy projects In an earlier statement, the Department of Trade and Industry said Masdar is focusing on solar, wind, and geothermal power projects. Masdar is the UAE’s clean energy champion and one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy companies, advancing the development and deployment of renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies to address global sustainability challenges. Last January DP World committed in a meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to expand and invest in the Philippines. In particular, the logistics company eyes to set up an industrial park in Clarkfield in Pampanga. DP World develops industrial parks in Senegal, Egypt, India and Pakistan, and has ventures in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It operates over 150 ports worldwide and is also a strategic foreign shareholder of Manila South Harbor, Batangas port, and Tanza Container Terminal port operator Asian Terminals Inc. Relatedly, DP World last February signed a partnership agreement with Masdar to explore and implement renewable energy systems across DP World’s global port operations in the Middle East and Africa.
