Result of the EU funded Zephyr project: New wind turbine simulation tools could revolutionize renewable energy Exciting developments in wind energy! The H2020 zEPHYR project has created innovative simulation tools to pinpoint the best locations for wind turbines. This can maximize energy production and minimize noise, leading to wider public acceptance of wind farms, especially in urban areas. These tools consider factors like wind patterns, turbine structure, and even resident concerns. This paves the way for more powerful and quieter turbines, boosting Europe's transition to clean energy. The project's potential extends beyond wind, with applications in drone safety and urban air mobility! This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 860101. Unlocking Alaska’s Tidal Power Potential Proteus Marine Renewables (PMR) has been selected by ORPC to join the prestigious team for the American Tidal Energy Project, funded in part by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office. The project will deploy tidal energy devices in Alaska’s Cook Inlet, which “contains some of the largest tidal energy resources of any region on Earth (including about one-third of the United States’ total tidal power),” according to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The project received $3 million in initial funding to evaluate ORPC’s Cook Inlet site, covering environmental, safety, and commercialization considerations. Proteus will work with the European Marine Energy Centre and Tidal Energy Corp on technology selection and qualification. “This is a welcome milestone for Proteus and for the future of tidal energy," said Tom Hutchinson, Director of Products & Services at PMR. "Cook Inlet holds immense potential, and the American Tidal Energy Project will demonstrate how tidal energy can become a reliable source of clean, sustainable power for coastal communities". 🚨 As the push for renewable energy surges, offshore wind farms are stepping up as key players in the race for sustainable power. But there's a critical issue looming—wind turbine wakes—and it's more problematic than many realize. These wakes, areas of reduced wind flow downstream of turbines, can lead to power deficits of up to 30% in some cases. Experts are raising alarms that the current models for predicting these effects are inadequate, potentially threatening the future of offshore wind projects. In our latest blog, we dive into the findings of a recent study by NREL and the University of Colorado and explore innovative solutions, like WindESCo’s Swarm™ technology, designed to tackle this issue head-on. 💡 Learn how Swarm™ is revolutionizing offshore wind power with cutting-edge turbine control strategies that optimize energy production and reduce wake losses. 👉 Read the full blog to understand why addressing wind turbine wakes could be the key to ensuring the future success of offshore wind: https://hubs.la/Q02YV7DP0 #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #WindTurbines #SustainablePower #WindESCo #EnergyInnovation #CleanEnergy

🌊Exciting developments in renewable energy! The U.S. has just issued its first-ever floating wind research lease off the coast of Maine. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the advancement of offshore wind technology, particularly for areas with deep waters where traditional fixed turbines aren’t viable. This research lease, awarded by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), covers an area of 9,700 acres and will allow the University of Maine to explore innovative floating wind technologies. The project aims to harness the potential of winds that could generate up to 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of electricity—enough to power over 1 million homes. As the U.S. aims to reach 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, Maine's initiative could be a game-changer. By unlocking the potential of deepwater wind resources, this research could significantly boost the U.S.’s ability to meet its clean energy goals and position the country as a global leader in sustainable energy solutions. The future of energy is blowing in a new direction—how will your organization adapt to these changes? #RenewableEnergy #WindPower #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #US #USA
