Fellow Engineers: Your career is your responsibility. Organizations aren't obligated to build it for you. Focus on employability, not just employment. There are two simple steps to lifelong employability: 1. Be really good at something. 2. Make sure the world knows it. #EIIRThought #Engineering #Career

US #veterans are beginning to form a valuable talent pool for advanced manufacturing and chip-sector positions, helping to fill the future gap in qualified workers as new #semiconductor fabs come online. Their talent, skill sets, and experience can help meet the industry’s workforce needs. There are 200,000 veterans released every year, creating enormous opportunity to close the workforce gap if the semiconductor industry can attract a fraction of them. As my friend Bill Wiseman explains in this McKinsey article, the semiconductor industry faces a critical labor shortage, especially among technicians and engineers, as new fab operations expand in the U.S. To address this, companies are forming partnerships with the public, academic, and private sectors to expand the talent pipeline. In the short term, they’re upskilling technicians and tapping adjacent industries, immigrant communities, and veterans while rethinking traditional job requirements. Long-term solutions focus on local geographic expansion, certifications, and apprenticeship programs. A well-developed workforce is essential for a stable economy and national security. #Semiconductors #WorkforceDevelopment #Engineering #TechTalent #CHIPSAct #Apprenticeships #TalentStrategy
