The Indian government, through the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways - India , has announced the installation of 5,833 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along national highways, with a total target of 7,432 such stations. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that a capital subsidy of Rs 800 crore has been allocated to three oil marketing companies for this purpose. Currently, there are 5,293 EV charging stations, with #Maharashtra having the most at 750, followed by #UttarPradesh, #Rajasthan, #TamilNadu, #Karnataka, and #Haryana. The government has not planned to set up power stations alongside highways for EV charging. Additionally, the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) 2024, which aims to boost green mobility and the EV manufacturing ecosystem, is set to conclude on July 31, with an outlay of Rs 500 crore and a total payout of Rs 493.55 crore for 3,72,215 vehicles. The two-wheeler industry is expected to see a growth rate of 7 to 9 per cent in FY25, driven by higher EV sales supported by the EMPS 2024.
