In today’s workplace, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) aren’t just buzzwords, they are foundational pillars that drive innovation, foster creativity, and build stronger teams. As professionals, we must consider DE&I not just as a company value but as a personal commitment. Samantha Knowles leads the Talent Acquisition and Delivery team here at Laurence Simons and knows first-hand that the majority of mandates we work on require a diverse range of candidates. However, in a recent survey, when participants were asked if they had any initiatives related explicitly to improving DE&I in hiring and recruiting, 43% said they either didn't have any or had yet to create such initiatives. In Samantha’s article, ‘DE&I Begins Before the Interview’, she looks at what best (and better) practice looks like, but to do this, we first need to look at how it has evolved and changed. You can read Samantha’s full article here: https://lnkd.in/e-c7UXUc If you are an organisation and would like hear a little more about DE&I or are looking for your next senior legal or compliance hire, then come and talk to a member of the team: https://lnkd.in/e3imUCt8 #DiversityEquityInclusion #Lawyer #InHouse #PrivatePractice #LaurenceSimons #EnrichingCareers

"Prioritizing Skills, Not Personal Background in Hiring" Inappropriate questions about personal background, such as "Where are you from?" or "What is your gender and age?" are irrelevant and can lead to discrimination. Employers should focus on skills, qualifications, and professional goals. These personal questions can create discomfort and violate anti-discrimination laws in many countries. It's better to ask candidates about their experience, problem-solving abilities, and how their skills align with the job. To address this issue, companies should train interviewers, update hiring policies, and focus on job-related qualifications rather than personal traits. #StopDiscrimination, #EqualOpportunities, #FairHiring,#WorkplaceEquality, #Internationalstudent

Do you know........ This time of year is, always has been, a very busy time in the legal recruitment market. It is our 3rd Quarter and traditionally for me always the busiest time. The reasons being are two-fold: Candidates - Want to get their new dream role all agreed and settled either before Christmas or if you're on a longer notice period know you're going to start the new year with a fantastic new role. Clients - This for most will be their last quarter of the year, they might have budgets to use or lose. They may have had an opportunity open for a while and need to have someone solid in place before the year ends. Soooo, if you are a candidate or client who needs some help, you know what to do. #legalcareer #newstart #finishstrong

Make Recruiting More Empathic and Equitable for All Many companies secretly tag serial applicants who apply for multiple roles without meeting the qualifications. This practice underscores the difficulties both job seekers and employers face. https://lnkd.in/gpCRxVjz

It's articles and research like this that serve as reminders for why we need to keep postively disrupting and removing obstacles for candidates. 🧠💭 In Olympus UK & Ireland hiring processes, you 𝘄𝗼𝗻'𝘁: ❌ Have to complete a lengthy, complex application form ❌ Be asked hypothetical or mysterious interview questions ❌ Interview against a vague job description ❌ Participate in group assessments ❌ Complete psychometric or behavioural assessments for non-leadership positions But you 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹: ✔ Have an easy, quick and smooth experience applying for a role ✔ Receive a clear, concise and meaningful job description ✔ Be provided with clear instructions, directions and support for your interview ✔ Meet us in a sensory friendly environment or setting ✔ Be accommodated and considered for, whether you explicitly ask us for support or not These lists aren't exhaustive, there's always so much more to do, but having a willingness to do better, and be better for people is where it starts.
