I was very lucky to witness the collaborative effort of 150 citizens in the Citizens’ panel on #energyefficiency, as a member of the Knowledge Committee: My 3 takeaways from this experience: 📣 Strong call for EU action: citizens want more EU action on energy efficiency, not less, especially when it comes to removing daily barriers to make it happen. ⭕ Holistic Approach to Energy Efficiency: citizens do not think in silos, they see the EE1st as a principle to be used across sectors, ranging from transport and buildings to education and research. 💡 Embracing new paradigms: new approaches to production and consumption are at the centre of citizens’ concerns and energy communities are regarded as a key solution to be pushed forward. Even if complex and sometimes challenging, participative democracy is always a good idea. EU Citizens’ Panels must become the rule, not remain an exception! 🌍✨I had the privilege of being featured in HORIZON - The EU Research & Innovation Magazine, where we discussed the vital role citizens play in shaping the energy transition across Europe. As I shared in the interview: “The role of citizens in the transition can correspond to individual or collective initiatives and social or political ones.” It’s inspiring to see how the EU’s push for local initiatives will continue to encourage everything from small, everyday gestures to major, headline-worthy efforts. I am humbled to be part of this important conversation and excited about the positive changes ahead! You can read the full article here - https://lnkd.in/dmYPEdqp

Great event organised by us and hosted by the UK Mission to the European Union on Integrated Offshore Wind and Hydrogen Infrastructure in the North Sea. The discussions evidenced the need to: 🌍 Strengthen the North Sea Energy Cooperation (NSEC) and the role of the European Commission as a platform to accelerate cross-border projects and funding in the North Sea. This will enable a more coherent and integrated approach to infrastructure development and energy security. 💡 Adopt innovative financing models that harness state guarantees, credits, and other financial schemes. These are essential for scaling up infrastructure and attracting private investment in a still uncertain market. 🌱 Enhance planning regarding the usage of clean hydrogen, particularly in sectors that are challenging to decarbonise and therefore offer the biggest CO2 abatement potential. Green steel, green ammonia and green methanol will need clean hydrogen. Buildings and short-haul vehicles do not. 🔄 Leverage the dual function of hydrogen as both an energy carrier and a storage solution and integrate both molecular and electric energy into infrastructure and grid planning. Stay tuned for our publication - set for this summer!
💡 On 18 April, EPICO KlimaInnovation hosted the event, “Accelerating Integrated Infrastructure in the #NorthSea”, which took place at the UK Ambassador’s Residence in Brussels. 🌊 Panellists delved into the challenges and opportunities of harnessing the North Sea’s potential. 🏭 The discussion also highlighted the strategic role of #hydrogen in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors and the need for integrated infrastructure planning. We would like to thank our high-level panellists and keynote speakers for their insights and participation: 🔹 Miranda Dawkins, Counsellor, UK Mission to the European Union 🔹 Dr. Bernd Weber, CEO, EPICO KlimaInnovation 🔹 Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Senior Advisor, EPICO KlimaInnovation 🔹 Christoph von dem Bussche, CEO, GASCADE Gastransport GmbH 🔹 Daniel Fraile, Chief Policy Officer Hydrogen Europe 🔹 Alice Hancock, EU Energy & Climate Journalist, Financial Times 🔗 Find a summary of the event here: https://lnkd.in/e3uJ5QHU ⏰ STAY TUNED! The event kicked off our project on #OffshoreEnergy in the North Sea. We will soon organise a Policy Accelerator on this topic, followed by a publication.

Thank you Move LA for inviting me to speak on the Vision 2026: The Clean Air and Climate Health Initiative panel alongside many other prominent leaders who are working to support a zero-emission, clean future. It was an honor to share our Ports for People mission: to work together with local communities, allies and partners to transform ports from hotspots of fossil fuel pollution to thriving hubs of sustainable economic development and environmental protection. A ballot measure to raise a boatload🚢of money would help us advance our 2040 zero-emission Port goals🔌⚡and get our port-adjacent communities some much needed relief from toxic air pollution 😷. On a global level, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC)--the body of U.N. scientists focusing on climate change--warn in their latest Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) that global emissions need to be cut in half from 2019 levels by 2030, and must peak by 2025 to stay under a 1.5 degree Celsius climate warming scenario. Locally, the San Pedro Bay contributes to 1200 premature deaths each year in port-adjacent communities. The time is NOW to invest in a climate resilient future--our disproportionately impacted frontline communities can no longer afford to wait! I'm eager to continue working with community leaders and different stakeholders to ensure a clean, renewable energy transition of maritime shipping and goods movement operations is environmentally conscious and encompassing of the community voices 🌎.
Thanks to Move LA for an incredible Policy Conference & Community Conversation last week where PE’s Cristhian Tapia-Delgado participated on a panel. The panel focused on the question: Is there a ballot measure that key constituencies can agree on that can raise the “boatload of money” needed for investments in clean renewable energy as well as other infrastructure needed to support a zero-emission transportation system, as well as an expanded regional #ZeroEmission transit system? ⚡💡🚢 Cristhian spoke about how a ballot measure to raise funding for zero-emission infrastructure would be a great way for us to speed up the deployment of zero-emission technologies, help us meet our renewable energy goals and bring substantial health benefits to our communities. And, advocated for funding to cover ship to shore power investments, as well as offshore charging for ships at anchor. Decarbonizing the shipping sector will drastically improve the health of our ecosystems and of port-adjacent community residents. 💲💸💰 The conference brought together hundreds of leaders in affordable housing, climate change, social justice, public transportation, and clean air to ‘be in the room where it happens’ and discuss how we move this region forward! Congrats on a great conference!

The article emphasizes the importance of community #empowerment in driving the #energytransition towards sustainability. It highlights the need for strong community support to ensure the smooth progression of clean energy initiatives, citing examples like the Wayuu People of Colombia. The "Just Energy Transition" process focuses on three pillars: innovation, access to #energy, and community engagement. It stresses the significance of respecting local contexts, engaging communities early and transparently, and delivering shared value to ensure successful transition initiatives. The energy transition requires effective action on #technological, #financial, logistical, and social fronts. Businesses must prioritize social license to operate (SLO) through early engagement with local communities and transparent communication. Partnership with governments, #NGOs, and community groups is essential for building trust and ensuring equitable and sustainable energy transition. The article concludes with examples of successful engagement initiatives, highlighting the feasibility and importance of the Just #Energy Transition in achieving a #sustainable future. #EnergyTransition #CommunityEmpowerment #JustTransition #SustainableEnergy #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #CleanEnergy #CommunityEngagement #SocialLicense #Sustainability #ClimateChange #Innovation #AccessToEnergy World Economic Forum | SunPower Corporation | Canadian Solar Inc. | SolarEdge Technologies | Bloom Energy | Schneider Electric | Trina Solar https://lnkd.in/eTNn6wCw
