Horizon Europe is the European Union’s key funding programme for research and innovation. Irish companies and institutions have secured €836.4 million, supporting advancements in health, environment, and digital technologies. This funding has positioned Ireland as a leader in innovation, ranking fourth in Europe for SME participation in the programme. Irish companies and research-performing institutions funded by Horizon include technology SME SiriusXT, environmental research project GoGreenNext and Saturn – a four-year research project exploring the problem of underwater noise caused by large vessels. Since there are no returns on that investment ls yet (and no path to profit is distinguished for those millions going towards listening to ship sounds and finding them to be "a problem" where noone found a solution for remedy yet) it is too early to call that spending spree evidence of "leading innovation"; Iteland is known to lead in wasting europeans subsidies and this isn't one bit different, success isn't measured in subsidies scammed (that is a purely irish meter for irish types of success) but actual commercial application of such "research".
