Here's to Strong Women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them. I'd like to add, May we support them. Women have a bad rap of being competitive and cruel to each other, but I'd like to think that we've left that behind in junior high. I'd like to build a strong network of female entrepreneurs who support the crap out of each other. Who share ideas and celebrate together. Who teach each other and willingly give what they know to lift each other up. Being an entrepreneur is so tough. I don't know that I can make it easy, but I think I can help make it easier and less loney. Does that sound like something you're interested in?? Join me for an in person event on Tuesday, May 21 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm! We'll do informal networking, celebrate, introduce ourselves and I have a short presentation on using a reflective practice in entrepreneurship. Tickets are just $10 and you can learn more and register using the link above!

It’s critical that strong female leaders continue to mentor and inspire young women and men (so they can normalize the concept of women in leadership, director, CEO, CAO, partner and president roles - a female in a leadership role shouldn’t be a breaking news item - it should just BE). Also agree that solidarity is so vital! It’s critical that as women, we continue to mentor one another, build our colleagues up, support one another in our successes, and stand tall together.
Our fourth and final fact sheet exploring the data from our Empowering Women and Girls project expands on the insights related to female leadership and solidarity. With gratitude to all of the women leaders that participated in this study and offered their rich perspectives and experiences! Also thanks to our lead researcher, Kristin S. Williams, Ph.D., and our researcher associate, Nina Winham. Racism, discrimination and colonial load are a huge motivating factors for Indigenous women exploring self-employment and entrepreneurship. The First Nations Leadership Forum has attracted leaders from a huge variety of public and private sector organisations. But, for our session, we simply invited female-identifying attendees to 'come tell us about your side hustles, business ideas, dreams for self-employment (and we promise not to tell your boss 😁)?' We had the best time! It is always so incredible to see women light up to talk about the freedom and creativity that self-employment facilitates. I'm fascinated by the way that self-employment and entrepreneurship 'translates' when these women go into roles in Government, corporates and NGO. Definitely an area for future study and exploration. Yes, it is also really hard! But this is why we believe that it's essential for First Nations women to have support from other Indigenous entrepreneurial leaders who have been there and can show the way forward. We also need Indigenous entrepreneurs at all levels of the business advisory and capital sectors. Photo from a presentation by Katja (Kat) Henaway from Politics and Colour and Blax Capital.
