We partnered with Nature Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada to conserve 970 hectares of forests, #wetlands and lakes in #Ontario. This project was made possible thanks to funding from the Canada Nature Fund’s Natural Heritage Conservation Program (NHCP). NHCP is a national program that contributes to the creation of protected and conserved areas by supporting partners to secure private lands and private interests in lands. This project was made possible thanks to the generous family who donated a portion of the property and funding from the Canada Nature Fund’s Natural Heritage Conservation Program (NHCP). NHCP is a national program that contributes to the creation of protected and conserved areas by supporting partners to secure private lands and private interests in lands. The conserved area will help protect one of the worlds most depleted and threatened ecosystems, as well as #SpeciesAtRisk like the golden-winged warbler and Eastern wood pee-wee. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Could Scotland's Flow Country get world heritage status 🤞 The Flow Country in Scotland, a vast expanse of blanket bog located in Caithness and Sutherland, is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status. This area, recognized as one of the largest and most intact blanket bog ecosystems in the world, plays a crucial role in carbon storage, water filtration, and #biodiversity support. Blanket bogs are a rare type of peatland that forms in cool, wet climates and spreads over the landscape like a blanket. The Flow Country’s extensive peatlands have been accumulating organic matter for over 10,000 years, resulting in deep peat layers that are significant #carbon sinks. The bid for World Heritage status aims to highlight the global importance of this habitat, ensuring its protection and fostering sustainable tourism and local economic development. This would be an amazing recognition for this important habitat, and could help ensure further investment into restoration projects. The Flow Country Partnership, comprising various environmental and governmental organizations, has led extensive community consultations to align local interests with #conservation goals. The skies over Israel are a testament to the country’s natural beauty and its role in global ecological systems.

A 500.000 Oyster Reef Restoration in the UK Wilder Humber, in collaboration with Ørsted and local wildlife trusts, is leading a landmark restoration of 500,000 native European flat oysters in the Humber Estuary. This initiative is a response to the severe collapse of oyster populations due to overfishing, pollution, habitat destruction, and disease. The oysters, once abundant in UK waters, play a critical role in marine ecosystems by filtering water and supporting biodiversity. The reintroduction is part of a broader effort to restore habitats that were nearly wiped out over the past century. The project highlights innovative techniques, including placing oysters on scour protection boulders under offshore wind turbines, repurposing these structures as new homes for the species. The goal is to regenerate lost reefs, with one hectare of oyster reef capable of filtering millions of liters of water and providing habitat for other marine life. Building on successful international efforts, such as New York’s Billion Oyster Project and Australia's Windara Reef, this project could serve as a model for future restoration in other UK estuaries. The World Heritage Committee is meeting in India to examine the conservation reports of 40 sites. These include the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the relocation of 4 400 community members has attracted allegations of human rights abuses. The WHC is taking action to address the matter and has additionally sternly advised Tanzania's government to put mechanisms in place to ensure co-existence between communities, wildlife and tourism business. It is impressive to see the high standards which the WHC is holding countries accountable to. The Torres del Paine Conservation Reserve is a 14,800-acre private conservation reserve just east of Torres del Paine National Park in the heart of Patagonia and National Geographic’s fifth most beautiful place in the world. The park encompasses 448,284 acres of pristine natural glaciers, native forests, lakes, and rivers including the geological natural wonder known as Torres del Paine, and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. The Reserve aims to protect remote territories preserved through a sustainable management model to safeguard rare landscapes, cultures, and ecosystems for perpetuity while also being able to enjoy the services and amenities of a world-class resort that Explora is known for. Within its borders, there are more than 20 species of mammals, 140 species of birds, and 3 ecosystems, with over 32% of the property being timberland. The Nature Conservancy has teamed up with Explora to lead and provide the conservation plan to adequately protect and improve the ecosystems within the Reserve. By investing in the Reserve, land owners can volunteer, participate in research initiatives, and give back to the land in ways unlike any other.
