The results are in. Spending time in Adelaide’s national parks isn’t just good for the soul—it’s great for your health, too! A recent study by the University of Adelaide found that regular park visitors are 4% healthier than those who don’t visit. The better health of regular visitors to our metro parks equated to $140m a year in potential avoided health expenditure on chronic diseases in SA and park visits also helped to boost the state's economy, the study found. With parks like Cleland, Morialta, and Onkaparinga within reach for most Adelaide residents, the benefits are closer than you think. Spending time in nature can improve physical and mental wellbeing, making it the perfect excuse to visit your local park. If you are a regular parks visitor, we'd love to know - what's your favourite park in South Australia? Or if you've been thinking about visiting some of our state's many spectacular parks, which ones are on your wish list? Comment below. The importance of trails the the health and wellbeing of Cowichan Region residents is indisputable. We had 1010 respondents 81% were locals, 34% were hikers, 31% mountain bikers, & 25% walkers. Sixty-eight percent of hikers were women and 70% of them were over the age of 60! Seventy percent of mountain bikers were men and on average were 47 years old.sixty-seven percent of hikers and 80% of mountain bikers generally participated with other people. Why is this important? Social isolation in adults is a significant contributor to poor health outcomes. In fact social isolation across the lifespan is proving to have worse health implications than sedentary lifestyles. Trails matter because leisure matters! Trails are vital spaces for social engaged and physical active leisure. The full report will be published through the VIU library and the WLCE@VIU website soon. Funding provided by the Tourism Cowichan |Cowichan Trails Stewardship Society | Municipality of North Cowichan | BC Recreation and Parks Association | VIU Research Matters | World Leisure Centre of Excellence at VIU

#WaterAndWellness #SDG6 #Rivers #BlueMind 💧Rivers and Creeks are natural surroundings to improve health and wellbeing - a good reason to protect and care for flowing waters in nature. 💙Since the average temperature of the flowing fresh water in the Faroe Islands hardly ever goes beyond 8 degrees, shallow river and pond banks and river bends offer a perfect, extremely effective and free Health Treatment for locals and guests, which is a little less challenging than Cold Water Dipping with the full body in the ocean. ☯️According to #HydroHealth concept, which is based on the German Water Health principles of Sebastian Kneipp, regular treading in cold water up to the knees improves immune systems and increases stress resilience. Water also has a calming and soothing effect on the mind just by it's pure presence. This phenomenon is often referred to as "blue mind," which describes the meditative state that water can induce, reducing stress and anxiety. 💦 Visit the flowing waters in the Faroe Islands and enjoy them for better health!
