Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is preparing to resume flights to the United States after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to settle pending financial issues. The move is expected to help Pakistan regain ‘Category One’ status, enabling direct flights to the U.S. to resume. The suspension, which began in 2017, had halted six weekly flights. Meanwhile, PIA is also working to restart flights to the UK by March 2024, following a positive evaluation by the European Union. These developments are anticipated to boost PIA’s revenue. #PIA #AviationNews #USflights #UKflights #PakistanAviation

Efforts Underway to Resume PIA's UK Flight Operations: An Update from Deputy PM Ishaq Dar Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has shared promising news regarding the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to and from the United Kingdom. After a suspension of over four years, efforts are intensifying to restore this crucial aviation link. During his recent visit to the UK, Dar emphasized that significant strides have been made, including updates to Pakistani aviation laws in line with UK regulations. This move comes in response to the European Union's Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) revoking PIA’s authorization in 2020 following a fake pilot license scandal. Dar highlighted that an "irresponsible statement" from a former government minister had led to the grounding of Pakistani aircraft across Europe and the UK. However, the current government is actively addressing these issues, including the potential privatization of PIA and outsourcing of Islamabad International Airport. Moreover, Dar reiterated the importance of the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the UK, especially given the 1.7 million-strong Pakistani diaspora in the UK. He also mentioned ongoing discussions with British authorities and the European Union to ensure compliance with international aviation standards. In his meetings with UK officials, including British Deputy PM Angela Rayner, Dar conveyed a strong commitment to resuming flight operations and facilitating overseas Pakistanis. Stay tuned for further updates on this important development! #Aviation #PIA #UK #InternationalRelations #Pakistan #BusinessTravel #Diaspora #AviationNews

Breaking News! Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to resume direct flights to Europe in January 2025, following the EU's decision to lift a four-year ban. The ban, which was imposed after a 2020 crash, resulted in a significant loss of $150 million annually for PIA. The airline will kick off its European operations with a direct flight from Islamabad to Paris, with plans to expand its routes soon. This development marks a major milestone for PIA, which has worked tirelessly to improve its safety standards and regain the trust of international regulators. #PIA #AviationNews #EUbanlifted #DirectFlights #EuropeanRoutes #AviationSafety #fetchpakistan

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the broader aviation sector in Pakistan have endured massive financial losses of over Rs. 450 billion during the past four and a half years, largely due to travel restrictions imposed by Europe. These restrictions have significantly impacted the country’s aviation industry, creating severe financial strain. Of the total losses, PIA alone accounted for approximately Rs. 220 billion. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and other stakeholders in the sector collectively suffered losses amounting to Rs. 250 billion. The European Union’s decision to bar Pakistani carriers from its airspace was a major factor behind these setbacks, hampering operations and revenue generation. The recent decision by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to lift the suspension on Pakistani airlines is a crucial milestone. This development is seen as a significant boost to PIA’s privatization process, offering a ray of hope for the struggling airline and the aviation sector at large. #PIA #AviationSector #EURestrictions #AirlineRecovery #PakistanAirlines

The pilot supply problem in Canada is due to a shortage of fair wages and working conditions. Air Canada needs to invest in our pilot group because Canadians deserve a reliable, sustainable aviation network. #worldclasscontract #ALPA #aircanadapilots

@Dace Kavasa, I disagree that "technically" there is a higher supply... Excess in pilot supply is a fact, at least in Europe. When big carriers announce vacancies, they receive hundreds of candidacies. If there were a shortage of pilots, why crews would accept to work for incredibly low salaries, under bogus self-employment and with atypical contracts? If airlines had really a shortage, would they not offer to pay cadets for their type ratings? Airlines keep the number of employees short, for obvious cost considerations. Did they go too far in reducing aircrew costs? In many cases, yes. This causes problems, notably in the high season. Some airlines do not have enough crews to cope with higher demand, delays and other uncertainties. In those cases, airlines have created their own shortages. Some realise too late, and have difficulties in putting too many pilots on the line at the same time. This is not a pilot shortage, it is bad planning… Some continue to sell the idea of a pilot shortage to pursuit their own advantage. It is an interested alternative truth.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the broader aviation sector have faced cumulative financial losses exceeding Rs. 450 billion over the last four and a half years due to European travel restrictions. According to sources from the Privatization Commission, PIA alone has incurred losses of around Rs. 220 billion, while the remaining Rs. 250 billion in losses are attributed to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and other industry players, caused by the EU’s restrictions on Pakistani carriers. However, the recent lifting of the suspension by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) marks a significant step in PIA's privatization journey. #PIA #AviationIndustry #EuropeanRestrictions #AirlineLosses #PakistanAviation

Shortage of pilots? Not really. Technically you have higher suplly than demand. As in Canada, thd rest of the world has exactly the same issues, and more. Shortage of pilots in fact is: - constantly lowering salaries vs increase of various risks (climate, wars, inflight security or unruly pax, proven negative impacylt on health...) - developing trend that airlines see air crew as 24/7 available resource - no respect for personal life - unacceptable rosters (my record seen - 29hrs of duty!!!) - insufficient rest and disregard for serious health impact of unstable and damaging /fatiguing rosters - threat culture not allowing critical view - last, but not least - the impossible "self employed" contracts = no social protection, prohibitive clauses to be on sick leave when sick, punitive penalties for just about anything, zero hour pay, and many more nuances. And, the clients of companies of labour exploitation close their eyes. So, no, there is no shortage of pilots, there is instead shortage of DECENT PILOT JOBS AND WORKING CONDITIONS. Just last week, hour notice to air crew that they are put on "unpaid leave"... Or 270 Eur guaranteed pay contracts in EU! Reality is not what is advertised...
