A recent report by the Foresight Centre at the Parliament of Estonia shows that every euro invested in green technology can bring higher returns, helping companies stay competitive in a market that increasingly values sustainable practices. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆: The adoption of green technologies can increase a company’s competitiveness – only if implemented optimally. STACC’s data scientist Arko Kesküla explains: “Green technologies bring true value to companies only when they’re optimally scaled and smartly managed. Whether it’s solar panels, battery systems, or EV charging, effective energy management is key to maximizing both economic and environmental returns. 🍃As part of one of Europe's largest energy companies, E.ON Group Innovation brings innovative solutions to the forefront, helping E.ON shape a green, digital, and decentralized energy world. With the recently enacted EU CSRD directive, a new requirement has been introduced for companies: Starting this year, companies must report their electricity consumption using two methods—market-based and location-based. The market-based method corresponds to the previous "green electricity," meaning if my provider sells it to me as such, I can report it that way. This often results in a "zero" in ESG reports, as green electricity causes no emissions. However, from now on, companies must also report based on location—essentially the local electricity mix as it comes from the outlet. Europe has the nobel and high ambition to become the first climate-neutral continent in the world by 2050. This will only come with energy and materials sovereignty, and with real innovations that deliver and deploy solutions through unprecedented levels of investments. The timings to deliver are not always realistic and I firmly believe that, if Europe achieves the green transition at the expense of losing jobs, it will be our failure and it will steal opportunities for today's and for tomorrow's generations. I thus consider fundamental that the green transition is paired with measures to ensure our industry keeps their business and global competitiveness in Europe.
