#Accessibility is ON! =) Last week I had the immense pleasure of holding a workshop about #inclusivewebdesign for the incredibly motivated team at contenance GmbH. Never have I felt more energized after a full-day workshop, instructing my passion topic to people like contenance’s Elias Lin & Christian Dölker who have truly understood not only the necessity but moral obligation for inclusive digital products and are willing to make it their priority. I look back with deep gratitude on the year 2024, where I had the privilege of talking about this essential social topic, nested into the future of our digital world, many times: giving a presentation at TYPO3 GmbH Dev Days in Karlsruhe together with Sebastian Spill, being keynote speaker at Smart Country Convention in Berlin, the contenance GmbH workshop in Stuttgart together with my colleague Dominik Krusemark and in numerous consulting sessions with SUNZINET GmbH clients. I am especially grateful to the G.I.B., who willingly keep allowing me to present the case of the berufswahlapp.de, which ensures the fully accessible (BITV-certified) vocational orientation of Germany’s pupils. Although the realization, that accessibility is not a nice-to-have anymore, has been predominant as feedback to my talks (with the #EuropeanAccessibilityAct of 2019 and the subsequent German law #BFSG coming into effect on 28th of June 2025), I still feel an unceasing urge to keep advocating accessibility for a more and hopefully soon entirely inclusive world! With the year 2024 coming to an end now and 2025 knocking on the door, I would like to wish you not only a Merry Christmas, but a Happy New “#YearofAccessibility2025”! I’m SO ready to talk to, teach, work for and consult anyone, who still feels lost or unsure about this looming topic. It’s not that hard as you think, once you have understood, how much easier it becomes with the right #mindset from the start of any digital endeavour in 2025. Together, we can do this! Together we can shape the #digitalfuture to be an #inclusive one.

#OAWeek is here! While open access (OA) remains a sector challenge, Open Access Week is an opportunity for us all to take action and keep momentum moving forward. We don't have all the answers, but we do believe that diversity drives better outcomes for society and that this should include a diversity of publishing models and publishers within the ecosystem. So, throughout the week, we're taking the opportunity to introduce a series of blogs that offer frank and honest reflections on the current OA landscape from our perspective and experience and are based on thousands of interactions with the research and library communities. Today's blog by Tony Roche, Emerald's Chief Officer: Publishing & Strategic Relationships, discusses the Plan S initiative, its challenges and unintended impacts. Follow the link to read the full blog and please add any questions or thoughts in the comments below. ▶️ https://bit.ly/3YgBvSd #OAWeek #OpenAccess #Diversity

Co-written by Alberta Giorgi and Micol Pizzolati, Digital Storytelling. Using creative methods for 'School Futures' is a new "Tools" in the Scientific Series "The Notebooks of Small Schools" by INDIRE (National Institute for Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research). Digital storytelling is a tool for stimulating and enhancing inventiveness and creativity because it enables students to elaborate a narrative in response to a general and at the same time specific question, to learn how to use storytelling tools, and also to reflect on the different ways in which the social world can be read and analysed, as well as on the different forms of narration. The digital storytelling method makes it possible to combine the inventive and creative dimension with rigorous analytical practice.
