🌍 Exciting news in the journey toward a sustainable future! Today, Australia and Germany elevated our existing Energy Partnership to an Energy and Climate Partnership, advancing joint work in climate action and cooperation, energy efficiency, energy security, and #GreenHydrogen trade. Under this Partnership, 🇦🇺🇩🇪 signed an historic Joint Declaration of Intent to negotiate a $ 660 million (400 € million) H2Global funding window to make shipping Australian sunshine to Germany a reality. Today’s launch of Australia's updated National Hydrogen Strategy (https://lnkd.in/gHGReA4x) will assist us in reaching our hydrogen potential and becoming a renewable energy superpower. 👉 Learn more about the 🇦🇺🇩🇪 Energy and Climate Partnership here: https://lnkd.in/e5gAbJQc; and the H2Global window here: https://lnkd.in/g74hAmVh. #NetZero #ShippingTheSunshine Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water | Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action | Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) | Austrade Europe, UK & Israel | Australian Trade and Investment Commission | Australian Hydrogen Council | Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany | Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade | Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition | Fiona Simon | Kelly Matthews | Eva Pannhausen | Johanna Harvey (she/her) | David Urry

Boosting Europe’s #competitiveness will be top of Ursula von der Leyen’s to-do list if the European Parliament agrees to grant her a 2nd term as Commission chief. A key to success will be unlocking the potential of struggling regions. In this opinion article for Europe.Table I make the case for a unified industrial policy approach which puts regional advantages – in renewables, in skills, in labour, in costs - at the centre of our continent’s industrial future. This can unlock competitiveness and bring jobs and investment to left-behind regions that desperately need it. https://lnkd.in/e5PZ9zuC #IndustrialPolicy #Cohesion #EU

👥 This week, we hosted a dynamic panel discussion with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Europe, addressing one of the most pressing questions for Europe's future: Can decarbonisation be the key to #energyresilience? The event focused on how the energy crisis has challenged the #competitiveness of European industry, particularly highlighting Germany's 9% contraction in industrial output between 2018 and 2023, while China's rapid rise in clean technology manufacturing continues. Our CEO, Dr. Bernd Weber, shared valuable insights: 🎙"#Decarbonisation is not just about renewables—it's about integrating them into our energy system. We need a more systematic perspective on resilience and the rollout of renewables. We cannot revert to a produce-and-forget mentality." 📊 The discussions offered rich insights into how the #EU can move forward by shaping regulatory frameworks and designing market instruments to reinforce its climate leadership. 🙏 A big thank you to our panellists Dr Christian Ehler MEP, EPP, Joaquim Nunes de Almeida, Director, DG GROW, European Commission , Agata Zalewska, Adviser, BusinessEurope, and our moderator Emanuela Barbiroglio, Correspondent, Carbon Pulse for their invaluable contributions. Thank you as well to our guests for participating and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Europe for co-hosting this impactful event with us as part of the #EnergyResilienceDialogues event series. 💡 Stay tuned for updates on the next event! 📅👀

A prosperous and competitive Europe: a key pillar of the #EUstrategicagenda 2024-2029, agreed by the #Council. At #Repsol, we firmly believe that Europe has a great opportunity to regain its #competitiveness in the upcoming institutional cycle. The energy transition must be undertaken in the most efficient and accelerated way possible, while at the same time favouring #reindustrialisation. ➡️ The energy transition is an opportunity, not only to create new value chains, but also to transform our existing industries in which we have competitive advantages over our competitors, so that their activity is compatible with the objectives of decarbonisation. It should be based in our current strengths and technologies, on top of developing new ones. ➡️ For this transformation to take place, European industry needs regulations that do not just prohibit or mandate, but rather provides incentives to attract private capital to finance the major investments needed. Europe needs an Industrial Deal to complement the Green Deal. ➡️ An example of this is the refining industry, which is undergoing a major transformation, critical for ensuring the decarbonization of transport by producing #renewablefuels for road, aviation and maritime, for maintaining quality jobs and for preserving Europe’s energy strategic autonomy. The contribution of #renewablefuels as a complementary solution to electrification means diversifying the decarbonization options, which will ensure that the objectives are achieved as soon as possible and at the lowest cost for society.

Great event organised by us and hosted by the UK Mission to the European Union on Integrated Offshore Wind and Hydrogen Infrastructure in the North Sea. The discussions evidenced the need to: 🌍 Strengthen the North Sea Energy Cooperation (NSEC) and the role of the European Commission as a platform to accelerate cross-border projects and funding in the North Sea. This will enable a more coherent and integrated approach to infrastructure development and energy security. 💡 Adopt innovative financing models that harness state guarantees, credits, and other financial schemes. These are essential for scaling up infrastructure and attracting private investment in a still uncertain market. 🌱 Enhance planning regarding the usage of clean hydrogen, particularly in sectors that are challenging to decarbonise and therefore offer the biggest CO2 abatement potential. Green steel, green ammonia and green methanol will need clean hydrogen. Buildings and short-haul vehicles do not. 🔄 Leverage the dual function of hydrogen as both an energy carrier and a storage solution and integrate both molecular and electric energy into infrastructure and grid planning. Stay tuned for our publication - set for this summer!
💡 On 18 April, EPICO KlimaInnovation hosted the event, “Accelerating Integrated Infrastructure in the #NorthSea”, which took place at the UK Ambassador’s Residence in Brussels. 🌊 Panellists delved into the challenges and opportunities of harnessing the North Sea’s potential. 🏭 The discussion also highlighted the strategic role of #hydrogen in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors and the need for integrated infrastructure planning. We would like to thank our high-level panellists and keynote speakers for their insights and participation: 🔹 Miranda Dawkins, Counsellor, UK Mission to the European Union 🔹 Dr. Bernd Weber, CEO, EPICO KlimaInnovation 🔹 Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Senior Advisor, EPICO KlimaInnovation 🔹 Christoph von dem Bussche, CEO, GASCADE Gastransport GmbH 🔹 Daniel Fraile, Chief Policy Officer Hydrogen Europe 🔹 Alice Hancock, EU Energy & Climate Journalist, Financial Times 🔗 Find a summary of the event here: https://lnkd.in/e3uJ5QHU ⏰ STAY TUNED! The event kicked off our project on #OffshoreEnergy in the North Sea. We will soon organise a Policy Accelerator on this topic, followed by a publication.
