There is basically zero basis for an estimate, no statistical frame work to make these assertions. Data? Material and records are lost or destroyed, whistle blowers conveniently (for China) dead. We don’t know, and we likely NEVER KNOW. Shutdowns, distancing, mandated vaccines, etc. we’re strong reactions from an unknown, terrifying threat. My major criticisms at the federal level are 1. Distinguishing between what we knew, what we thought we knew, and what we didn’t know. 2. Cartoonishly bad response from CDC, both the debaucle of contaminating the only batch of diagnostics in March 2020 and exceeding its mandate by trying to require specific social behaviors from the populace. 3. The politicalization and general unwillingness to work together for the greater good in the face of a 1918-scale event (waiting for comments on this point)

The House Covid panel has released their final report into Covid origins and the pandemic response.
