Hi Network! I made the difficult decision to resign from my role. I am excited about what the future holds and just as energized and ready to learn as day 1, but this time with 14+ years experience (in #retail, #apparel, #merchandising, #buying, and #ecommerce) and ready to find my next role that allows me to #mentor the next wave of retail! I love using #data to build compelling and engaging stories to build #trust and gain buy-in with both internal and external partners and stakeholders. I enjoy taking the customer on a journey of #discovery, giving her what she wants, when she wants it, and more importantly what she didn't even know she wanted. Creating an #assortment that the customer will look at and say, "Wow, I have to have this!" is my #passion. #Strategizing and putting the big picture together is my jam, but the thrill of finding a little nugget of information to exploit and build off of is just as intoxicating. It's important for me to #lead, not manage. I want my team to be able to run when I'm not there. I don't see this as being replaceable, I see this as me doing a damn good job utilizing strengths, putting processes in place for efficiency, and creating a space of psychological safety for the team to think strategically and take initiative. I love apparel, but am also interested in expanding my knowledge outside of this category, whether in #sports, #home, #toys or #cpg. My Interview Experience at Blinkit for Assistant Store Manager 🌟 Role: Assistant Store Manager 🏢 Company: Blinkit I recently had the opportunity to interview with Blinkit for the role of Assistant Store Manager, and I’d like to share my experience to help others who might be preparing for similar roles. 📌 Interview Process: 1️⃣ Initial Screening: A telephonic round focused on my warehouse operations, logistics, and team management background. The interviewer explored my experience at BigBasket and ECom Express, particularly my inventory management and dispatch planning approach. 2️⃣ Technical Round: This round was more in-depth, covering: Inventory Optimization: Handling stockouts and ensuring availability. Cost Control: Strategies to reduce operational expenses. Scenario-Based Questions: E.g., "How would you handle a sudden surge in demand during peak hours?" 3️⃣ Final Round: Interaction with the regional manager focused on: Leadership and team management skills. Conflict resolution and maintaining operational efficiency under pressure. My vision for managing a high-performing store. 💡 Key Takeaways: Blinkit values a proactive approach to problem-solving and operational efficiency. Retail is a great career choice for many reasons. Here are a few - add more in the comments: 1. Lots of jobs. According to the National Retail Federation, "From first jobs to lifelong careers, retail launches more people into employment than any other. From the part-time sales associate at a local store on Main Street to an app-developer for a major retailer, the retail industry directly employs 32 million Americans, making it the largest private sector-employer in the economy." 2. Lots of sectors and formats. There are specialty stores, small-box stores, big-box stores, warehouse clubs, designer boutiques, coffeehouses, entertainment venues, pop-up shops, restaurant chains, convenience stores, grocery stores, and a whole lot more. You could be in fashion, footwear, sporting goods, electronics, automotive, food service, home improvement, agriculture, and on and on. Brick & mortar. Ecommerce. Both. 2. Lots of opportunity to grow your career. Starting as a sales associate? With focus, determination, flexibility, and talent, you can advance to key holder, assistant store manager, co-manager, store manager, area manager, district manager, regional manager, regional director, regional VP, territory VP, and many other field leadership and support positions. 3. See yourself more in an office role? Don't fret. There are dozens of roles in retail corporate departments, such as inventory planning, buying, allocation/replenishment, supply chain, operations, marketing, finance, HR, talent acquisition, training, real estate, and more. 4. Progress is often (not always) based on your success. Unlike most industries, a degree isn't required to get into retail - and it's often not required to move up. Sometimes it is, sure, and companies use that as a way of managing demand. But over the last 15+ years I've come across hundreds and hundreds of district/regional managers who don't have a degree and make really good money. Where else does that happen? Retail demands a lot, absolutely, but it can also give a lot in terms of opportunity, salary, recognition, and much more. I understand why a lot of people want out of retail, I really do. Why Retail is One of the Most Important Industries! If you've ever worked in retail, you either loved it or hated it. I know that firsthand. But for those who loved it, that summer job you took for a few months in a retail shop near your house could easily turn into a lifetime career. I’m sure many professionals out there can relate! I speak with customers and others regularly about the importance of store teams to the success of physical retailing. People in our stores and the service they provide are the primary purpose of an instore visit for many consumers. If not for them, why not shop online? The ideal profile of a store colleague has evolved so dramatically in the last decade. We bang on about the pace of change in tech - I think the pace of change in what's required for a store worker is even greater! And whilst selecting, training, inspiring and retaining the right team has never been more important, it's incredibly hard to build the capabilities to spot, recruit and nurture these future-fit, engagement focused skillsets. Lee Strickland shared the stats below recently with me. They're the selection process he and his team have been through recently to find and hire one store manager. One! I cant think of a better way of describing how thorough the team are at finding great retail talent, or the seriousness with which we take it as the key to unlocking retail success, than to share these statistics.
