From June to August, 50% of hiring managers and candidates are out of the office at some point. As a result, some employers think the summer is the worst time to hire. Others view it as a great time to snag top candidates while there's less competition. If you're hiring this summer: ➡️Be realistic about timing. Things move slower in the summer. It's normal for hiring to move slower as well. Make sure you communicate that to candidates. ➡️Manage expectations. Always try to give candidates an accurate depiction of what they can expect at each step of your process. ➡️Time kills all deals, no matter the time of year. Even though things might be slower in the summer, don't let things linger so long that the best candidate slips away. Hiring this summer? This is why we prefer to hire people during the summer period: Summer is often seen as a slow period, but it's actually a great time to focus on hiring. Here’s why: 1. Less Projects = Less Distraction: With fewer projects on the go, you can dedicate more time and resources to finding the right talent. 2. Targeting Candidates Seeking Change: Many professionals look for new opportunities during the summer, making it the perfect time to attract those ready for a change. 3. Reduced Competition: While other companies might slow down their hiring, you can take advantage of the reduced competition to secure top talent. 4. Faster Hiring Process: With a quieter schedule, your hiring process can be more streamlined and efficient. 5. Time Management: Summer offers the chance to balance hiring needs with upcoming business goals, setting your team up for success in the busy months ahead. Make the most of the summer and build a stronger team! #Hiring #TalentAcquisition #SummerRecruitment #HR #BusinessGrowth #TimeManagement

Can someone explain to me why the hiring process for summer jobs is so complicated? Good Lord, my teenager is spending an hour per application answering 50+ questions about his like & dislikes or how he'd respond to hypothetical situations at work. It's just a summer job! What happened to fill out the one page form, talk to the store manager for 10 minutes to make sure you're not Beavis or Butthead, and start the next day? This shouldn't be harder than college applications! Do we really need screening software to find the best candidate to stock shelves for two months? Any of my recruiter or HR friends here dare to explain why this is necessary? Or can we all agree this is corporate insanity?

💡 What is "FOHS"? My acronym for "Fear of Hiring in the Summertime." Historically, April, May, and June are among the most competitive times to hire. Several factors contribute to this; candidates receive their annual bonuses and are ready for a change, companies are confident about hiring post-Q1 earnings, and then there's the "FOHS" - Fear of Hiring in the Summertime. Navigating the hiring process during the Summer can be challenging, akin to "herding cats," often leading to losing candidates due to timing and calendar coordination. Conversely, candidates tend to postpone their job search during the Summer due to personal commitments like vacations and time off work. What does this mean? A less robust candidate pool and a prolonged hiring process, resulting in delayed hires. Thinking of a Summertime hire? Consider advancing your timeline to kickstart the process, which also provides you with the opportunity to evaluate a strong candidate pool. Hey, Hiring Teams! As summer vacation is coming up, this is for you! If you and/or your team is hiring over the summer, make sure not to post jobs unless you have coverage who can fulfill the hiring process. Coverage for interviews Coverage to get a contract out Coverage for approvals Coverage for budget approval Coverage for someone who can make decisions. for you to build momentum only to have to stop the process due to someone being on vacation who can approve something is super lame! So, if you are looking to hire this summer, don't be lame... appoint backups that can help keep the process moving so your new hire can start either while you are gone on vacation or, upon your return. Otherwise, if you really need to be that much in control of the process, hire before or after your vacation time. #hiringhack #peoplematter #summervacationplanning #planning #summer #hiring #hiringprocess #hiringmanagers #recruiters #directors #managers
