Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 🧡 and the beginning of 16 Days of Activism. Globally, violence against women and girls is one of the most persistent human rights violations. Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed as a result of violence. Nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. These statistics are heartbreaking and unacceptable. This is a time to reflect, raise awareness, and commit to action. There is #NoExcuse for violence. Let’s stand together to challenge attitudes, behaviors, and systems that perpetuate this injustice. Change begins with each of us—whether it’s by speaking up, educating ourselves, or supporting initiatives that protect and empower women and girls. Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed. In 2023, across the globe, every 10 minutes, partners and family members killed a woman intentionally in 2023. Australia is not immune to these figures. The crisis of gender-based violence is urgent. There is #NoExcuse for violence against women and girls.  Today is the International day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of 16 Days of Activism Activism against Gender-Based Violence (it ends on 10 December - Human Rights Day). Time to sharpen up on the global facts and figures about violence against women. The United Nations has a helpful summary of key global figures we should all know - and then GET ACTIVE to eliminate violence against women. What can you do in your workplace? Community? Reclaim the Agenda and 16 Days of Activism on Gender Based Violence 2024 is starting soon. Now what do these two things mean ? As part of the 16 days of Activism to end Gender Based Violence you have the opportunity to attend different events, training, and experience different viewpoints and learn about struggles that are faced here in NI. The Reclaim The Night march gives women a voice and a chance to reclaim the streets at night through a safe and empowering event. UN Estimates: 56% of femicides are committed by partners, ex-partners, and family members. This shocking statistic underscores the hidden dangers many women face within their own homes and relationships. On International Women Human Rights Defenders Day and during the #16DaysOfActivism, we stand with those who risk their safety to advocate for others, as well as with survivors of violence everywhere. This global movement calls for action to end violence against women. In 2024, the campaign highlights a stark reality: Every 10 minutes, a woman (regardless of age) is killed. #NoExcuse. At ERA, we stand committed to breaking the silence that surrounds elder abuse, which often contributes to its persistence. Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life. Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women will draw attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women to revitalize commitments, call for accountability and action from decision-makers. The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign (Nov 25- Dec 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December).

This sobering stat, highlighted in a recent UN Women report, exposes the disturbing reality of femicide worldwide. Today marks the beginning of the 16 days of activism. The 16 days runs from November 25th which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to December 10th which is International Human Rights Day. This year's theme is: "UNITE TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS. The theme is a call to all stakeholders to see to it that violence against women and girls comes to and end. Ending violence against women and girls is a topic that has been talked about for years but the number of cases is still alarming. As of 2023; every 11 minutes, one woman is killed, 1 in 3 women experience violence in their lifetime, 1 in 4 adolescent girls is abused by their partners.
