I first noticed Amazon's 'Real customers, real reviews' campaign in podcast ads. This Christmas, they're going all in with Adam Driver in this great campaign (one of many ads I assume). It's a really interesting insight/pivot for a brand that seems to have exhausted/perfected the most obvious elements of their value proposition: product range (infinite) and delivery speed (same day). Where can they go now? As a Prime user, I value reviews, they inform my choices. And there's a scary world of fake reviews out there (hello Google Maps), but I still find going all-in with reviews intriguing. It leverages two of Amazon's key competitive advantages: 1. Size – with millions of reviews, you're bound to find some great content 2. Authenticity – you can only review what you buy Still, the best part for me is how it puts user generated content front and centre, celebrating people who take the time to write amazing reviews about the most random products. It continues to build Amazon's community and it might even kickstart a trend for hilarious reviews.

First fresh takeaway from latest Mipcom: The Great Correction is not over yet and scripted producers should definitely diversify their strategies and not rely on just local commissioners and local projects, but also aim for global and targeted audiences. Basically: know your audience. And prepare for further disruption where gatekeepers (major broadcasters, streamers, studios, distributors) are not longer the alpha and omega of content distribution. B2C is a crucial part of the near and long term future. Not to say that major players shouldn’t be part of the business equation. They still will. But a “parallel” and profitable ecosystem is growing beside the usual suspects. Hereby exemplified in this excellent (as always) episode of The Town podcast. How indie horror movie ‘Terrifier3’ not only cut through the noise and became a huge hit thanks to smart and targeted marketing, but also how it profited of a curated, multi-platform, B2C ecosystem. #scripted #b2c
