📢 The Global Commons Alliance is in New York for Climate Week NYC and the UN Summit of the Future, 20-29 September 2024. View all events we are hosting or taking part in: https://lnkd.in/dmiXZSq8 See you there! 👇 ‘It’s time for collective action’ is a key theme for GCA in New York. As our Earth Commissioners repeatedly tell us, we are living in an age of urgency. As the impacts of a rapidly changing climate and biodiversity loss accelerates around us all, citizens, cities and companies are realizing that we must act now, and we must act together. 🤝 This means breaking down barriers and silos between sectors. It means being explicit on the transition pathways informed by science. And it means engaging with regulators and policy makers to accelerate actions toward a safe and just future. We need a holistic Earth system approach to be embraced by all, ensuring social justice and local knowledge is fully integrated alongside public mobilization. 🌎 We’re bringing the transition into the mainstream of business and government – convincing hesitant decision makers to take action, by showing them what can be achieved. In New York, together and alongside many of our partners, GCA and our core components – GCA Accountability Accelerator, Earth Commission, #EarthHQ, Science Based Targets Network and #SystemsChangeLab – will accelerate the system shift toward a safe and just future for all. ➜ Explore our New York events calendar, which is being updated regularly: https://lnkd.in/dmiXZSq8 ➜ Subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on social media for the latest updates: https://lnkd.in/d6FcU5f ➜ To get involved or for more info, please contact us: https://lnkd.in/dbySfneA #ClimateWeekNYC #OurCommonFuture #ClimateCrisis #NatureCrisis #ClimateAction #Events

⏱️ The countdown to New York Climate Week is on! It's time to close the gap and move from ambition to implementation. From September 22nd to 29th, we’ll be in New York engaging with global leaders and innovators to tackle some of the most pressing climate and nature challenges, such as mobilizing climate finance, transforming the built environment, and transitioning industrial agriculture toward regenerative practices. At Metabolic, real change happens when we address the root causes of systemic issues. Over time, we've identified key barriers and learned that closing the implementation gap needs coordinated efforts and cross-sector coalitions working together. That's why we are proud partners of the Systemic Climate Action Collaborative, the Systems Transformation Hub, and the Circular City Coalition. We're eager to collaborate with those committed to creating lasting impact. If you're working on place-based transitions, transforming cities, reshaping financial systems, advancing bioregional approaches, or regenerative agriculture, let’s connect during New York Climate Week. 👉 Reach out to Eva Gladek Murray Gray Matthew Moroney Andrew McCue to identify opportunities to connect. Stay tuned for more details on where we’ll be and how you can get involved. #NYClimateWeek #CloseTheGap #SystemicChange #RegenerativeEconomy

Meet us at Climate Week NYC! Our Director of Sales, Laura Plant, Founder Kat Bruce and CEO Dimple Patel will be in New York, attending and speaking at various Climate Week NYC events. This year’s Climate Week NYC theme, ‘It’s Time,’ is a clear call to action. Gradual measures are no longer enough. We must act urgently to tackle climate change and reverse its impact. Businesses need to move beyond planning and goal-setting and focus on taking decisive, meaningful action. This week, Kat Bruce, Laura Plant and Dimple Patel will discuss how our eDNA technology is designed to empower our clients with solutions that enhance biodiversity awareness, foster collaboration, and promote local engagement in conservation efforts. We’re excited to explore how corporates can not only raise awareness of key species but also influence how businesses report on natural capital, accelerating finance towards nature. With #ClimateWeekNYC 2024 now behind us, I’ve been reflecting on the diverse discussions I had at the events hosted by Morgan Stanley and at those I attended. Here are some key observations that stood out: 🤝 We must break down silos and improve our ability to foster cross-sector collaboration. This was evident in our roundtable with the Partnership for New York City on building a climate-resilient New York. We discussed the need to leverage existing public funding initiatives, create centralized New York-based institutions to coordinate climate resilience projects, and foster collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure knowledge is shared and resources are pooled. Tackling climate change will require a diversity of voices—from finance to technology, government to foundations—all speaking to each other and working toward solutions. 🌎 The intersection of climate and people was a much more prominent part of the conversation this year. This was clear at our roundtable in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund on financing the transition of global food systems to be more climate- and nature positive, where participants emphasized the importance of ensuring that social dimensions, such as food security and farmer livelihoods, are prioritized. 💰 Financing is key to accelerating decarbonization. Whether it is developing new funding mechanisms or finding ways to build investor support, there is a clear need to think more creatively and ambitiously if we are to achieve climate goals. Bold approaches to funding are needed, such as utilizing blended finance, existing federal programs, and mobilizing concessional capital. ⚡ There are reasons to be optimistic. There is continued growth in renewables and energy storage, innovative financial solutions in emerging markets are scaling, and there is rising confidence in voluntary carbon markets. But we also face real barriers: financing gaps, geopolitical uncertainties, and the growing recognition of the challenges of meeting 1.5C. Thank you to my colleagues at Morgan Stanley including Courtney Thompson, Zach Solomon, Artemis Diana Tiburcio, and Titilayo Ola who helped organized the events. And thanks to our partners at the World Wildlife Fund, including Sheila Bonini and Elizabeth Aceituno, and Maria Gotsch at the Partnership for New York City. Additional gratitude to all other organizations that hosted events, including NationSwell.

Are you feeling the rising heat? July 21 was the hottest day ever recorded on Earth. Heatwaves, drought and flood are becoming ever more severe and slashing harvests around the world. Ecological breakdown is here, accelerating and unequally distributed. Let's face it: Green capitalism is nothing but a propaganda bluff. The energy transition isn't actually happening. The momentum for a Green New Deal has long faded away. Oil companies are making profit records while we head into collective disaster. Bayo Akomolafe asks us to consider, “What if the ways we respond to the crisis are part of the crisis?” So many of our contemporary “hopes” for climate resilience and restoration are based on the same premises that got us into this mess in the first place. We made the upcoming documentary film “Water is Love: Ripples of Regeneration” to inspire a paradigm shift in how we engage with the climate crisis: From paying attention only to carbon emissions to embracing the interdependence of Earth’s ecosystems, water cycles and atmosphere From investing in tech-fixes to regenerating ecosystems, Earth’s natural climate regulating systems From featuring centralized top-down “solutions” to creating resilient bio regions through decentralized community-driven water management. First responses to the film have been more than encouraging. Many people have told us: “Finally a film about the climate crisis that opened my heart and left me with hope!” Join us from Thursday to Sunday next week (August 1-4) for an online screening of the film, accompanied by the online summit "What Does Water Want?" Sign up now for expert teachings and conversations on ecological restoration and climate resilience, meditations, group exercises, and resources to help you take an active part in the regeneration revolution. Speakers will include many of our protagonists and ecological heroes Rajendra Singh, John D. Liu and Saad Dagher, Indigenous leaders Ati Quigua, Tiokasin Ghosthorse and A’ida Shibli and thought leaders Vanessa Machado de Oliveira, Amber McZeal, Sabine Lichtenfels and many more. Register now - on donation! We hope you will be with us. Feel free to share this invitation with others who might appreciate it. With flowing love, Emily Coralyne & Martin Winiecki Your summit team https://lnkd.in/d3RC7EFC
