The SCAQMD’s Indirect Source Rule 2305/WAIRE Program is making great strides against nitrogen oxide pollution, currently reducing emissions by 0.86 tons per day and working toward the goal of 1.5 to 3.0 tons daily. This will yield significant public health benefits, including: - 150 to 300 fewer deaths - 2,500 to 5,800 fewer asthma attacks - 9,000 to 20,000 fewer work loss days These initiatives are also projected to generate $1.2 to $2.7 billion in health savings from 2022 to 2031. The recent report highlights the benefits of Indirect Source Rules (ISRs) for warehouses while acknowledging the significant work needed for broader compliance. Currently, just over 40% of the 1,408 regulated warehouses over 250,000 square feet have submitted required reports and begun pollution reduction steps. In contrast, only 30% of warehouses between 150,000 and 250,000 square feet have met reporting requirements. This underscores the need for ongoing advocacy and collaboration to enhance compliance. Engaging stakeholders and streamlining processes is essential to achieve the environmental goals. #cleanair #warehouse #trucking #logistics #supplychain #compliance

PPRC 2025 The PPRC (Pollution Prevention and Control Conference) 2025 is set to be a significant event for addressing the most critical environmental challenges facing industries worldwide. Scheduled to take place in 2025, the conference will bring together leaders from industry, government, academia, and environmental organizations to explore the latest advancements in pollution control technologies and strategies for sustainable development. The primary focus of PPRC 2025 will be to discuss innovative solutions for mitigating pollution in air, water, and soil, as well as enhancing resource efficiency. As industrialization continues to accelerate globally, managing pollution and minimizing environmental impact have become crucial. PPRC 2025 will showcase cutting-edge technologies, regulatory frameworks, and effective best practices that industries can adopt to prevent pollution and adhere to global sustainability standards. One of the key aspects of the conference will be the in-depth workshops, technical sessions, and expert panels that provide valuable insights into emerging trends in pollution prevention. Topics will include air quality management, waste-to-energy systems, environmental compliance, and the integration of circular economy principles into industrial processes. Experts will also explore the role of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and automation in improving pollution control efforts. As countries worldwide strive to meet stricter environmental regulations and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, PPRC 2025 offers a unique opportunity for collaboration, innovation, and action. By uniting stakeholders from diverse sectors, it aims to foster knowledge exchange and provide actionable solutions to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for the future. https://buff.ly/49QMxlt

Policy brief: Exploring outputs of the SPP on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution Prevention. The Science Policy Panel should conduct both retrospective and prospective assessments that are integrative and comprehensive, holistically consider root causes, barriers and enabling elements, intended and unintended consequences, and that build on previous “lessons learned” to develop policy-relevant, solutions-oriented assessments. The assessments can integrate knowledge and experiences from other science-policy interfaces such as the IPCC and IPBES to broadly, but pragmatically explore issues and their solution-space. Finally, the Science Policy Panel assessments should be flexible in scope and depth, ranging from specific issues contained within a specific geography to more expansive and encompassing assessments. We offer two examples of the types of integrative solutions-oriented assessments to spark conversations on what the Science Policy Panel’s assessments might consider. The first example is retrospective, concerning pollution from pharmaceuticals that threatens biodiversity, ecosystem services and public health globally, especially in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). The second is prospective by considering potential releases of chemicals and waste from technological infrastructure (e.g., hospitals, transportation hubs) and landfills located in coastal zones threatened by climate-induced sea level rise and extreme weather events. For detailed background information, please refer to our publication: Diamond et al. 2024. This is such an important (and impressive) report, especially if you're an #engineer working on the problem of #RecycledWater, or work in the #pollution sector and need #exposure data, or trying to understand #stressors in #AquaticEcosystems. The report shows that water treatment is really amazing at reducing the concentration of most contaminants. Some chemicals, however, increase in concentration even during sophisticated treatment processes (#PFOS why won't you go away?!). Effluents are still aquatically toxic to some degree. Some contaminants continue to rear their ugly head (#caffeine and #DEET) and I think are likely emitted from most non-sophisticated STPs. Other chemicals are new players to the contamination scene (organophosphate flame retardants and haloacetic acids). Thanks for publishing this Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA)! https://lnkd.in/gkTVUDT5
