COMING UP IN MAY: On the 22nd we will have our monthly meeting and will hear from Rollo de Sausmarez and Jennifer Strachan from Guernsey Chamber of Commerce about sustainability in the business world. Do get in touch if you would like to join us. Here's some more information: “We know from 5 years of surveys to the Guernsey business community that the biggest barrier to being more sustainable is knowing where to Start. It’s refreshing to see a world where consumers increasingly care about the environmental impact of the products they buy. That care quite often translates into a willingness to pay ‘the green premium’. So, why would a company downplay its green initiatives? It seems counterintuitive. Yet, greenhushing is a very real phenomenon. There’s no single reason why companies do it. Often, it’s a mix of factors. Sometimes, it’s driven by a fear of not being “perfect”. Companies worry that if they highlight their sustainability initiatives, they’ll open themselves up to criticism for not doing enough. It’s a strange logic: better to stay silent than risk scrutiny for imperfections, even if you’re genuinely trying. https://lnkd.in/gwu2YajU

We assess Sustainability across four key pillars but not all pillars have the same impact on an organisation’s Sustainability — some are more important than others to the public. This year, Conduct has the biggest impact on Sustainability, contributing 31% of the total weight or importance in building a reputation in Sustainability. This is closely followed by Social Performance, contributing 30%. Workforce at 22% is third and trailing that is Environmental at 17%. If your organisation wants to be a sustainability exemplar, you will need to perform strongly across all four pillars.
