"I love seeing the difference we make in people's lives," Emily says. "It's a small act of kindness that can make a big difference." Story 2️⃣ : "Student Starts Environmental Club" Meet David, a college student who was concerned about the amount of waste on his campus. He started an environmental club, which has grown to over 50 members. Together, they organize clean-ups, promote recycling, and raise awareness about sustainability. David's initiative has inspired other students to take action and make a positive impact on their community. "We're not just making a difference on campus, we're making a difference in our world," David says. Story 3️⃣ : "Student Mentors Younger Students" Meet Maria, a high school student who volunteers as a mentor to younger students. She helps them with their homework, provides guidance, and supports their personal growth. Maria's dedication has made a significant impact on her mentees' academic performance and confidence. Becoming Techstars mentor this year has introduced me to some inspiring founders, including Elya Lane of Corra Health, who's developing an AI-powered health assistant. Elya is developing an AI-powered health assistant, drawing from her personal experiences. She's currently fundraising for a new service animal to support her as she builds her company. This was an interesting discussion. Some key takeaways: 1. African giving is embedded in everyday life; 2. It is values driven; 3. We have to own & champion our narrative; 4. It can be difficult to quantify or measure noting that time or knowledge among others are what is given. Truly inspirational webinar, thanks to GivingTuesday & TrustAfrica, that we need to continue.
