Dr. James Pennebaker and colleagues came up with a precise protocol for journaling in 1986, and it has been replicated in more than 200 studies since. Here’s the exercise: 1. Think of the most traumatic event in your life 2. Write for 15-30 minutes – with assurance no one else would read 3. Write the entire time without concern for grammar, spelling, etc. Two tips: 👉 allow yourself a little time to decompress and regroup after, this might be difficult to perform because it taps into negative experiences. 👉 I recommend identifying a support person you can speak with about whatever feelings might arise. #trauma #traumahealing #journaling #journalinginspiration #therapy #therapyworks #jamespennebaker

Want to make some healthy changes but unsure where to start? Try journaling! 📓 Writing in script (versus typing) helps strengthen the connection between your brain and body, giving you fresh ideas and clarity. Here's how to start: ⏰ Set an alarm for 30 minutes earlier to write in the morning, or wind down before bed with 10 minutes of journaling. 🕙 On a tight schedule? Try using part of your lunch break to reflect on your day instead of scrolling through your phone. ✍️ Even if you just write the date, it’s one step closer to where you want to be! Consistency is key. Let your journal be your safe space to explore thoughts, ideas, and inspiration! #JournalingForHealth #MindBodyConnection #Naturopathicdoctor #Naturopathicmedicine #naturopathic #hormonehealing #hormonebalance #hormonesupport #hormoneimbalance #hormonehealth #guthealthmatters #holistichealing #holisticsolutions

1️⃣ Easy way to show you are listening to your patient. Echo them. What does this mean? It means repeating the words they say. So you appear supportive and interested in what they have to say.🤗 ❗❗ Interrupting them has the opposite effect.❗❗ How can you practise this? With a colleague or teacher: Patient: Describe complaint. Doctor: Respond by repeating one part of complaint. Patient: I've had this tingling feeling in my left wrist for about a week. Doctor: 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁? Patient: I've got some concerns about having a general anaesthetic. Doctor: 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀? Does it feel unnatural? Check out this short clip of a doctor who uses this strategy. 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼: How many times in 1 minute does she echo the patient? Does she sound unnatural? 👠 New things can feel uncomfortable. 👠 Like shoes - it takes time. 👩⚕️ How have you improved your active listening skills? Share your tips in the comments. __________________________________ P.S If you'd like more focused listening using this clip, check out my latest #Amazy lesson in the comments.

Did you know that writing can help you heal? Did you know that writing can support your therapy process? How? When we write we engage a different part of our brain. During writing we focus on what we really want to say, there is a flow and we let our internal sensations, thoughts and feelings to resurface. When we write we formulate logic sentences, there is no distraction that can change your mind, like, for example in situations when you talk. Because when you talk , you not only change what you want to say , because the environment, the audience reacts to your speach, through their facial expressions, and their interjections, and you lose the flow to fit the current conversation, and true meaning of what lies beneath that mask that you have been wearing for a very long time, is gone. Writing heals those parts that you kept hidden from the world, often even hidden from yourself. Don’t listen to me , go and try it for yourself, experience the magic unfolding underneath the pen. #therapy #emotionalhealth #emotionalwellbeing #counselling #mentalhealth
