🎃 It's Spooky Season! Are you ready to scare away those sales tax worries this Halloween? As we creep closer to the end of 2024, with a chill in the air and a new fiscal year on the horizon, CFOs of SaaS and tech companies are making sure they don’t get haunted by sales tax surprises in 2025. Here are my 3 recommendations to keep your compliance skeletons safely in the closet: 👻 Audit your nexus exposure: Dust off those cobwebs and conduct a thorough assessment of where your SaaS business might have tax obligations lurking. Check for physical presence, economic nexus, and marketplace facilitator laws that could bring you into the tax-collecting spotlight. 🕸️ Review your tax calculation processes: Don’t let outdated calculations haunt your compliance efforts! Evaluate your current tax system to ensure it accurately covers sales tax rates and rules across all relevant jurisdictions—especially if new changes have recently crawled out of the woodwork. 🦇 Monitor economic nexus thresholds: Keep a close eye on those economic nexus thresholds creeping up in various jurisdictions. Track your sales to spot any that might cross these thresholds, summoning new compliance requirements in unexpected places. By following these steps, you’ll ensure that your sales tax compliance is as sharp as a vampire’s fang 🧛 and avoid any frightful surprises come 2025! Feel free to reach out to us here at Miles Consulting Group, Inc. if you need help taming those sales tax monsters. #2025 #SalesTax #MultiStateSalesTax #TaxCompliance #Halloween

Last week was a great one - we brought on three new relationships where I know we can make a big impact. 1. A tax client who’s younger and a bit smaller than our usual clients but this guy has way more potential than he realizes. I see big success coming his way. 2. Added a husband/wife team (seeing more of these lately!) who had been burned by their previous tax folks. We’re going to save them about $35k to $50k a year once we get everything straightened out. 3. We reconnected with someone we did a tax plan for two years ago. Back then, they had a traditional CPA who didn’t implement any of our strategies. Fast forward to today, their business is booming, but their books, systems, and tax situation are a mess. We're stepping in to help get things in shape so they can hit their big goals. 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀? $𝟮𝟬𝟬𝗸 𝘁𝗼 $𝟮𝟱𝟬𝗸 𝗮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. They were really overpaying the IRS. While it is easy to celebrate big wins like this what really makes the difference is consistency. We have to show up, stay focused and bring positive long term impact.

A penny saved might cost you more in the long run. Consider those tempting Black Friday tax deals: - $199 for a tax return - $50 for a 2-hour consult - $500 for an annual write-up They seem great, right? But consider the risk of ending up with a huge tax bill later. Cheap services often come with hidden costs. Would you haggle with your doctor or lawyer when serious issues are on the line? Probably not. So why take chances with your taxes? Here's what I've learned: → Trust professionals like AMD Integral Services Pvt Ltd who charge based on their expertise. → Most provide excellent service despite a few bad ones. → Saving now could mean paying more later. Your taxes need more than a bargain-bin approach. They require accuracy and dedication. As a sales manager in accounting, I know quality service makes a difference. It's more than just numbers—it’s about trust and making sure your financials are in good hands. Next time a deal seems too good to be true, ask yourself: Is the risk worth it? Invest wisely in your financial future. What do you think? Share your experiences!

This is my second listening to this worthwhile podcast. Sales tax administration for online sales continues to grow in importance as the % of online sales to total retail sales increases. Observation #1: States must continue to work to simplify taxation rules and practices. This is occurring. Never as fast as taxpayers want. But it is happening. Observation #2. The primary pushback is that small businesses struggle to comply with the demands of “11,000 tax authorities many of whom have their own rules.” I disagree. The amazing thing is still the technology and the platform for online sales. Small businesses have access to an online network to sell anywhere in the country, even the world. How can there not be growing pains that linger? State sales taxation is moving toward conformity. Thresholds coalescing for sales levels in the states is an excellent example. Centralized state administration is noted by the podcast participants to be improving in a similar fashion. Economic presence / nexus is an integral part of the state taxation future. Tax administrators need to continue to engage with taxpayers and their representatives to guide an effective and efficient approach to this clear reality. #SALT #OnlineRetail #ECommerce #PostWayfair #EconomicNexus

☕ Who's ready for their annual Tax Season Glow-Up? 😅 Before tax season, we’re calm. We’re hydrated. We’re optimistic. We’re even smiling in Zoom calls. I believe the phrase is "bright eyed and bushy tailed" After tax season? We as an industry feel like extras from The Walking Dead. Sleep-deprived. Living on instant coffee (I'm not a coffee drinker but I understand the need for it!). And wondering why the IRS can’t just be nice to us for once. Busy season can age us faster than being President! 😂 Every single year, we say, “This time I’ll prep earlier. This time I’ll be ready.” And every single year, tax season laughs in our faces. It’s a rite of passage in this profession BUT it no longer has to be with all of the new and cool AI software floating around. I myself have been working on my automations and getting out of the preparation and more into the planning and guiding of a business. Even if you stay doing the same ole, you should still wear that as a badge of honor because at the end of the day, we get through it. We rally. We finish strong. And then we crash—preferably on a beach somewhere, but more likely on the couch. 💬 For real though: How do you recover after tax season? Spa days? Staycations? An entire weekend of Netflix and naps? Share your post-tax survival secrets below! #TaxSeasonSurvival #AccountingLife #TaxGlowDown #BusySeasonRecovery #CPAWarriors
