𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁? TodaysMeet was an app that collected real-time, live comments in an anonymous stream-style forum. The app shut down in 2018. After some research, I found quasi-substitutes but what I truly need is an EXACT replica... The anonymous aspect would be most appealing for a face-to-face training course on which I am currently working. ℝ𝕖𝕗𝕝𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤 Beloved by teachers and trainers, the app allowed people to submit "chat-style" comments from their phones or laptops, thereby encouraging audience interaction during a presentation. It was fun to project this app on the back wall of a boardroom or classroom. As a speaker, I would follow along, gauging the level engagement and interest of the audience. Participants could submit unlimited comments. Or, they could ask a speaker to slow down, speed up, or repeat themselves: 1) Without having to interrupt the session to say it aloud 2) Without needing to share their true identity 3) Without fear of embarrassment It was the ultimate guardian of "psychological safety" in an adult learning context!

Learning from learners is for real. On my feet training for three days I have been downloading massive contents to prepare my learners for assessment on the 4th day. It involves heaps of stuff to memorise. I have always been intrigued by how the process can be more effective for learners. Nagging at learners to "study", "revise" and "prepare" is not #meaningful. These are not techniques and they certainly did not work for me in school. I was observing a learner read when given time to revise. But reading is not studying or memorising. If so, what is? Watching a YouTube video by Ron White Memory Expert https://lnkd.in/gdAxyU9E, I was reminded of spaced repetition and was inspired enough to map a mode-to-mode (written, oral, practical) reference chart (top left)—what a #eureka moment 🧠 I know #flashcards work and I always recommend it. One of my learners was game enough to try them but she upgraded my suggestion to using a #phone #app Brainscape! Another has been using #onenote for many years. Both and the rest performed remarkably well at assessment today. I am really proud of them. The poster underneath is an adaptation from my shifu Michael P A Tan who guided me when I shadow his delivery of the #training.

**Here is why I don’t allow notetaker apps to attend my trainings.** THOSE WHO PAY MORE, PAY MORE ATTENTION. Paying more can mean money, but it can also mean TIME. Be honest, how many of you ACTUALLY go back and read/listen to the recorded meeting that you send you bot to? I know that I personally have sent mine to HUNDREDS of meetings, and I haven’t read anything from a single one of them. If you want to develop, prioritize time for development.

. . . and after reconvening with the class, what if the learners in the small groups introduced one another: To encourage students to reciprocate in self-revelation, Giannoukos et al. (2015) suggest dividing the class into small groups or pairs, providing each with guiding questions, and having them discuss the answers before later re-forming the larger group and sharing with the class. The questions can ask learners why they are attending, what they expect or wish to learn, and what kind of challenges to learning they expect to face in and out of the classroom. Once again, the purpose is to dispel notions of hierarchy and establish the educator as one who encourages, guides, and facilitates as part of a learning community, who along with students works toward a common goal. How do you keep a training session engaging and avoid people checking emails/slack on a separate screen? I personally need a combination of theory and practice to get into the swing of it. Read feedback from one of our recent Accessibility training modules. ''David was a fantastic host and facilitator with loads of knowledge and loads of energy! While training a group of librarians in Alabama, a discussion around 1:1 devices evolved. It seems like we are again "flying the plane while building it" in the education world, just as we were during the early days of COVID-19 remote learning. What happens to all those broken devices? What are schools to do with students who repeatedly break devices? What are the logistics around lesson planning when some students never have their devices? How much time and energy is being spent on device management? Are low-end devices really going to be viable for multiple years? What is the impact of 8+ hours of screen time on the developing brain? Do schools have the infrastructure (energy, wi-fi, ergonomic desks) to accommodate 1:1 initiatives? Are the devices being used to transform learning or just making worksheets digital? Do all devices need to be re-formatted prior to state-wide tests? Are there safe places to store the devices when students are at recess/gym? 🤔 🤔🤔
