From 2011 to 2021, an average of 102 women and girls were victims of gender-related homicide per year in Canada, totaling 1,125 over the period. We believe in a future that is free from violence and abuse. We call on our community to help us end the violence against women. Today is the last day of the #16DaysinWA campaign. So many people I speak to do not know how common partner violence and abuse is in Australia. I've had so many conversations where people say the issue is 'important' but overhyped...they are shocked at the statistics that over 1 in 4 women (27%) have experienced violence or abuse by a cohabiting partner since the age of 15, including 1 in 6 (17%) who experienced physical or sexual violence, 1 in 4 (23%) who experienced emotional abuse and 1 in 6 (16%) who experienced economic abuse. This means that everyone knows someone who has experienced this violence. It might be your sister, mother, cousin, aunty or friend. These experiences can be debilitating, isolating and so lonely. In keeping with the theme of this year there are so many things you can do to #playyourpart whether that is providing support for someone in need or better educate yourself about the issue and have conversations with others. This year the State Library curated a recommended reading list (https://lnkd.in/gWF7JzYR). Other Australian books I have found valuable on the topic include: - See What You Made Me Do - Jess Hill - The Mother Wound - Amani Haydar - Eggshell Skull - Bri Lee

A United Nations report on gender violence confirms that the deadliest place for women is home. Sixty percent of the 85,000 women and girls killed globally in 2023 were murdered by an intimate partner or family member, an average of 140 every day. A study released by the Violence Policy Center in October analyzing 2022 homicide data underscored this danger. 2.1 of every 100,000 females in South Carolina were killed by males that year, a figure that topped the national rate of 1.4 per 100,000. Over 86 percent of victims knew the men who killed them. ➡️ Read the UN Report: https://loom.ly/YYqsjRs ➡️ Read the VPC South Carolina Data: https://loom.ly/ikqJ6Zk #EndGBV #EndIPV #StandWithSurvivors

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. In partnership with our many community partners and Safe Centre of Peel, Family Services at Indus Community Services takes this day as an opportunity to reflect on violence against women in our society and to remember those who have died as a result of gender-based violence. It is a day on which communities and individuals can come together, speak out, and take action to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. #violenceagainstwomen #stopviolence #violence

Today is Elimination of Violence Against Women Day, which also marks the first day of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. But have you thought about why we use the term “gender-based violence”? 👉 The majority of survivors are women, trans, or gender-diverse individuals, while the perpetrators are overwhelmingly male. 👉 It recognizes that violence is not just physical. It includes emotional, sexual, economic, and psychological violence, as well as crimes like human trafficking. 👉 It clearly states the core of the issue: violence of all forms perpetrated against a specific gender group. GBV has recently been declared as an epidemic by the Toronto city council, highlighting the urgent need for change and intervention in our communities. How will you do your part in ending violence against women?👇 If you or someone you know has experienced gender-based violence, we are here to help. Call 416-808-7066 to speak with a crisis counsellor to get immediate support. Our phone lines are open 24/7. #16DaysofActivism #SupportSurvivors #EndGBV #GBV #EndWomenAbuse

🔶 Did you know that nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide experience violence in their lifetime? In 2023 alone, an estimated 51,100 women and girls lost their lives to gender-based violence globally. The issue is just as pressing here in Georgia: • 7,773 victims of domestic violence were reported this year, and 84% of them were women. • Last year, 93% of those seeking refuge in state shelters were women. • Between 2018-2022, 183 femicide-related cases were recorded, with 66 officially classified as femicide. These aren’t just numbers—they’re lives. Behind every statistic is a story of pain, resilience, and the urgent need for change. #NoExcuse #EndGBV #16DaysOfActivism #StopViolenceAgainstWomen #GenderEquality
