CONGRATS TO ..........???? The Absa Group Integrated Report 2022 was recognized in the Top 10 Integrated Reports among the JSE Top 100 listed companies in the EY Excellence in Integrated Report Awards. ‘Excellent’ reports have a clear strategic focus, an emphasis on value creation, a high level of connectivity between the various elements presented, and consequently a coherent value creation narrative, according to EY. An integrated report is a concise communication about how an organisation’s strategy, governance, performance and prospects, in the context of its external environment, lead to the creation of value over the short, medium and long term, according to the IFRS Foundation, a public interest organisation established to develop high-quality, understandable, enforceable and globally accepted accounting and sustainability disclosure standards. In March, Absa investor relations was voted top among all listed South African companies in the 2023 Intellidex Top Investor Relations survey. https://lnkd.in/dWp9MmZU

So happy to have been included in this roundtable discussion focused on the "Principles of Good Corporate Reporting." my esteemed panelists included some of the the best practicing chartered accountants in the world (imo) who include activism and context in their respective roles. • David Bolderston, International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Technical Director, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation • Dr. Alison Fordyce, Senior Lecturer and Head of Accounting and Finance, University of Dundee, UK • Yulia Feygina, International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) Technical Director, IFRS Foundation • Joseph Owolabi, Chief Executive at Rubicola Consulting • Hsiao Mei Chow, Head of Corporate Reporting Insights, ACCA The roundtable concentrated on developing guidance and insights into the principles of corporate reporting, which are essential for providing coherent and connected information about how organizations operate and respond to changes in the business and natural environments. Good quality corporate reporting should cover a wide range of value drivers for organizations, beyond financial performance. It should cater to aspects that give users a clear understanding of the progress made, or the values held, in corporate culture, know-how, innovative processes, and environmental or social impact. Over the past decade, our stakeholders have increasingly sought such non-financial information, particularly concerning the external impact of a business, to form their outlook. #ACCA #CorporateReporting #Sustainability #IFRS #BusinessEthics

Many companies have made ‘net-zero’ and similar climate-related commitments. Users of the financial statements, regulators and the public are raising questions about the financial reporting impacts of such commitments – in particular when they trigger a liability. Stakeholders are focused on whether companies are telling a connected net-zero story across different forums and reports, including their financial statements. Companies need to assess their plans to meet such commitments and determine the financial reporting impacts for each action under IFRS® Accounting Standards.
