A Timeless Tradition in Modern Times! The human pyramid, more than just a physical feat, is a tradition steeped in history and symbolism. Tracings its roots back to many ancient cultures, these formations have symbolized resilience, unity, and the strength of the collective. The #Castells of Spain (https://lnkd.in/ddt72ReR), human towers are built during festivals to showcase community strength and balance. In #Japan, school sports festivals feature human pyramids as a test of endurance and coordination, teaching lessons of trust and cooperation. Closer home, the Dahi Handi tradition during Janmashtami is a vibrant example, symbolizing teamwork and perseverance. Globally, similar formations have been a testament to community, trust, and the power of working together toward a shared goal. In a modern context, this tradition takes on even greater significance. Today it is a demonstration of skills critical for success - teamwork, leadership, collaboration, and the ability to lean on one another, quite literally. Why post this picture? Because it captures the essence of everything we stand for at The Wonder School: learning through experience, the power of community, and the importance of instilling values that go beyond the classroom. Moments like these is essential because they remind us of what true education looks like - holistic, empowering, and deeply rooted in values that prepare children for life. And so, our Sports Day is never complete without this display of trust, confidence, and teamwork. What other ancient traditions do you think can continue to inspire us today? #EducationForLife #LeadershipThroughLearning #TraditionMeetsModernity #TheWonderSchool shelina adtani Saurabh Sharma Abhishek Dasgupta Sima Dasgupta Sheetha Chacko Ketika K.

Our next ISLANDS Conference 2024 presenter is Vannak Khin, who is a recently graduated ISLANDS MSc student. Vannak presented his thesis research which he conducted with University of the Aegean, on Educational Persistence among Greek Undergraduate Students in Lesvos, Greece 🇬🇷 📚 In this research he explored transformational experiences of Greek students studying at the University of the Aegean. In Greece, national panhellenic exam results determine what universities students can attend; social pressures and educational expectations factor in the ultimate selection process, leading students to study in Lesvos under tenuous conceptions of choice. Through a critical realist lens, this research employed two mixed methods: semi-structured interviews and survival analysis. Persistence factors were studied to reveal how islandness can shape student experiences and outcomes. Ultimately, this work argues that unique spatial and temporal dimensions of studying in an island provide an unexpected transformative experience for Greek students which can be utilized to strengthen the student experience. This is important insight for policy and practice recommendations to address educational disparities in island universities 🏝 🎓 Thank you Vannak for sharing you exciting research! Stay tuned and join us on this journey through our world of islands, celebrating the future of island studies and sustainability! 🏝 🌿 #islands #islanders #islandness #research #conference #Lesvos #university #education #students #PPGIS

What is the original meaning of the word "school," and what is its precise definition? To answer this question, we must turn to ancient Greece over 2000 years ago. The term "school" derives from the ancient Greek "schole," which encompasses meanings such as peace, leisure, rest, and study. According to Aristotle, "schole" or school—representing leisure and free time—is essential for the development of civilization and culture, including science, philosophy, and art. It allows humans to manifest their true nature as autonomous, self-governing beings. So, school enriches human life by engaging with science, philosophy, art, and challenges, thereby elevating existence and multiplying personal fulfillment. And what is LEORON? It is exactly the type of school that can help you to become who you really are. By addressing areas for professional development, LEORON facilitates your journey towards realizing your true self. Because filling our free time with learning and self-improvement is essential for advancing human progress across all domains and eras.
