🆕 Today, our Leadership Team Member, Carolina Cortes, participated in the Global Forum on Migration and Development Civil Society Thematic Dialogue Series. 🇨🇴 The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is currently under the Chairship of Colombia (2024-2025), focusing on three overarching pillars - human rights, labour migration, and regular pathways - as well as six thematic priorities, including: 1️⃣ The Impact of Women on Global Migration and Development. 2️⃣ Children and Youth on the Move. ✨These priorities are of utmost importance to our work as an organization with a vision of achieving gender justice beyond borders through research, advocacy, and education! 🎙Here is what Carolina takes away from the thematic dialogue: “It was very empowering to learn about key challenges and opportunities related to migration, gender, and youth through a multi-stakeholder perspective. From discussing GBV, regularization mechanisms, and migration policies more generally, there was always an emphasis on creative, innovative, and emphathetic responses on matters concerning migrant women and youth.” #migration #gender #justice #youth

WHERE IS GENDER EQUALITY? As an advocate for human rights Equitas - International Centre for Human Rights Education have realized same exclusion in different years. Only 8 out of 78 world leaders attending COP29 are women. Where are young people? While young people are at the front lines of health and climate crises around the world, they’re still being sidelined at decision-making tables. This lack of representation is not small issue. Only 0.2% of climate funding for impacted communities actually reaches women’s rights organizations even though they’re the most impactful agents of change in health and climate actions. Do you know % of health and climate funding for youth organizations? Whose obligations to Respect , Protect and Fulfil? Young People refuse to accept this. 🚨Publication Alert 📝 ✨We are continuing our celebration of migrant youth with a publication series of policy briefs compiled by participants in our Migrant Youth Leadership Program (MYLP). 💡The policy briefs rest on an analysis of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) submitted by European UN Member States for the first International Migration Review Forum using our Gender-Migration Index (GMI). ➡️Kicking off the series, we are sharing the policy brief “Gender-Responsive Implementation of the Global Compact for Migration in Europe: Spotlight Labor” by Stacy Ogembo and María José Quirola. 🗣 “In the few countries where gender dynamics are mentioned such as in Spain, discussions focused on ensuring non-discriminatory working conditions for immigrant workers, particularly women and minors of working age. Likewise in the VNR of Sweden, there are references to gender considerations, compliance with the principle of equality, and initiatives like the Swedish-Somali Business Program aimed at helping women and young people find employment.” ⬇️ Curious to learn more? #migration #gender #justice #youth #Europe #GCM #labor

Women's presence in the security sector is disproportionately low, yet their perspectives are crucial for fostering a more equitable and peaceful global landscape. Their contributions are invaluable, characterized by: We are prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy over violence, fostering trust crucial for peacemaking. Emphasizing civilian needs, and ensuring security measures are inclusive and protective. We are offering nuanced insights into gender dynamics, aiding in the prevention and mitigation of gender-based violence. Despite their invaluable contributions, women encounter numerous challenges in this sector: Facing discrimination from peers and the public. Being disproportionately subjected to sexual harassment and violence. Experiencing limited opportunities for advancement and training. Boosting women's participation in security demands concerted efforts such as: Enacting laws and policies fostering gender equality. Providing tailored training and career pathways. Challenging stereotypes regarding women's roles in security. By fostering inclusivity and equity, we can forge a security sector that benefits all, advancing towards a more just and peaceful world. #WomenInSecurity #WomenInPeacemaking #GenderEquality #security #gender #leadership #work #experience #opportunities #training #building #genderanalysis #genderequality #womenempowerment #genderbaseddiscrimination #genderresponsivepolicies #genderequality #military #womeninthemilitary #genderrights #equality #justice #humanrights #diversity #inclusion #empowerment #truthinpolitics #posttruthpolitics #misinformation #factchecking #democracy #medialiteracy #criticalthinking #socialmedia #electionintegrity United Nations UN Women UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC European Commission European Women's Lobby Oxfam International World Humanity Commission SIA Women in Security Forum

🌍 My Visit to the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan (New York) 🌎 The 17 United Nations goals cover a wide range of topics, including ending poverty, achieving gender equality, protecting the planet's land and water, tackling climate change, developing sustainable economies, limiting consumption, and even good governance and peace. 💎 🌏 Every year, the 2030 agenda is reviewed at a high-level political forum to assess progress on specific goals and countries, as well as to identify gaps, opportunities, and ways to accelerate implementation. 🌐 To achieve the SDGs, all sectors of society must be involved, including NGOs, academics, researchers, the private sector, international organizations, communities, and, of course, governments. We are left with the next five years of action, which is more important than ever given the progress that has been lost due to Covid 19. #QualityEducation #ClimateAction #CleanEnergy #EconomicGrowth #StrongInstitutions #GenderEquality #NoPoverty #ZeroHunger #GoodHeath #Innovation #Sustainability #Union #Peace 💙 💟 💙

🌍 The #climate #crisis is intensifying, and girls and women are bearing the brunt of its impacts—affecting their health, education, and safety. For the past 15 years, #ZanaAfrica has been developing and delivering the education and resources needed to empower girls' agency and resilience in the face of this global threat, equipping them to: - Embody and promote equitable #gender #norms - Build #agency and #resilience - Ensure their #health, #safety, and dignity - Amplify their voices in decision-making - Foster economic independence By strengthening #adolescent girls through our proven interventions, we’re helping them protect themselves, their families, and their communities. If we want true #ClimateJustice NOW, we must invest in girls and in education that promotes gender equity to both #girls and #boys. We must provide the resources necessary for our youth to thrive and lead us toward a more balanced and sustainable world. #ClimateWeek #UNGA #GenderEquity #ClimateJustice #ZanaAfrica

Our founder and Economist Mitali Nikore spoke about the pressing need to address #climate change on this #WorldEnvironmentDay2024. From the impacts of #airpollution to the increasing frequency of #heatwaves in our cities, the intersections of climate change and #gendergaps cannot be ignored. As cities like #Dubai have shown, investing in district-level cooling systems is crucial. Let's prioritize #ClimateAction and consider how it intersects with #gender equality, as #women are disproportionately affected by heat waves. Together, we can build a more #sustainablefuture. 🌍💚 #ClimateChange #GenderEquality

Did you know that many rural parts of the world remain unmapped? This means that when disaster strikes, the response and recovery efforts become increasingly difficult. Open Mapping is vital in addressing disaster and climate resilience; public health; displacement and migration; gender equality; and the creation of sustainable cities and communities. This is where the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) comes in. HOT is a brilliant organisation which focuses on humanitarian action and community development through open mapping. HOT, together with volunteers and partners, work to put these rural areas on the map, by providing data which revolutionises disaster management, reduces risks, and propels multiple Sustainable Development Goals. This is why we are so proud to support HOT through Virgin Unite. Here’s more from the people who make it happen: https://virg.in/3TGLP56
