This week I had the pleasure of attending a fantastic panel discussion at #GreenerInfrastructureWeek2024, hosted by ecologiQ. It was inspiring to hear from industry leaders like Alberto Jimenez, Miles Dacre, Rackel San Nicolas, Michael Staunton, and Rhys Owen-Roberts about the significant strides we've made in sustainable construction. Just 7 years ago, a 36% carbon reduction in concrete was considered groundbreaking. Today, the industry standard is typically 50% or more! What struck me most? The power of collaboration. It's not just about individual innovations – it's about our entire industry moving forward together. As an engineer who thrives on collaborative creation, watching our sector unite for sustainability is truly energising. How can we support the construction industry with the green transition? ☘ Together with Arup we have developed a new handbook for #Nordic decision-makers and planners on how to utilize the potential within marine biobased building materials. The handbook seeks to overcome the barriers due to lack of technical understanding within the field. The handbook includes a catalog of available marine-based biomaterials in the #Nordic markets and a database providing insights into their applications in the built environment. “We hope that this technical handbook, with examples of marine biobased building materials will inspire the construction sector to see the possibilities of using marine biobased building materials to become greener," says Rasmus Malmborg, Head of Program at Nordic Innovation.
