A step closer to Denmark's largest offshore wind farm: Thor 🌊 At Port Esbjerg, we are thrilled to see that the construction of RWE's Danish offshore wind farm, Thor, has reached a key milestone. The first batch of monopiles has been successfully offloaded and stored at Eemshaven in the Netherlands. To put things into context, these monopiles measure up to 100 meters in length and weigh up to 1,500 tonnes – equivalent to 1,000 small cars! 🚗 In collaboration with our alliance partners, Groningen Seaports from the Offshore Wind Port Alliance, the monopiles are being stored at their base port in Eemshaven. Looking ahead, the installation of the turbines is scheduled to be carried out from Port Esbjerg, starting in 2026. We believe this is a great example of how building offshore wind projects on this scale requires international collaboration between ports to meet the logistical and infrastructural demands of these complex projects. Coordination across the industry is necessary, if we are to redeem the ambitious targets for the green transition for the offshore wind industry and Europe in general. Once completed, RWE’s offshore wind farm Thor will have a capacity of 1 GW, generating enough electricity to power over one million Danish homes. Port Esbjerg is proud to be part of this transformative project, alongside our alliance partners at Groningen Seaports, reinforcing the key role international ports play in developing renewable energy projects.
