🎯From Simple to Complex: A Roof Platform Success Story Projects rarely go as planned, and this “straightforward” roof platform for a penthouse terrace proved just that. What started as a simple job quickly turned into a challenge that required flexibility and quick thinking. Here’s What We Faced: 1️⃣ Weld Accessibility: Limited roof space meant moment plates could only be welded from above. Fillet welds? Not an option. We switched to single-bevel CJP welds with backing bars to get the job done right. 2️⃣ T-Shape Moment Plates: To meet the EOR’s requirements for triple-moment connections, T-shape moment plates were added, creating an extra challenge for fabricators and erectors. 3️⃣ No Cranes Allowed: The curveball? At the very last stage, we learned no crane pick-ups were allowed. Every piece of steel had to fit into a passenger elevator, forcing us to split members into 6-foot sections and splice beams into multiple parts. 📋 What We Took Away: After this project, we introduced a pre-detailing questionnaire to tackle issues early. Questions like max assembly length, delivery constraints, and stock length availability help us avoid surprises, reduce rework, and keep projects running smoothly. 🛠 Why It Matters: Steel detailing isn’t just about making drawings—it’s about solving problems, anticipating challenges, and delivering practical solutions that make fabrication and installation smoother.
