𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 The newly signed agreement project called “𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆-𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑨𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒂𝒇𝒆 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑬𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑫𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕-𝒗𝒖𝒍𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑬𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒂,” holds immense potential for the country. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬:- 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭: to implement solar-powered water pumping systems alongside efficient irrigation techniques to address Ethiopia’s drought-prone regions (Amhara and Oromia), particularly the Kobo-Girana Valley and the Borena Zone, which are facing mounting challenges due to climate change, Increasing temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and prolonged droughts significantly affecting the agricultural productivity and water availability of communities making the region highly vulnerable. 𝐓𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞: 50 million (USD 45 million from the Green Climate Fund and USD 5 million in co-financing from the Government of Ethiopia). 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: more than 355,000 direct beneficiaries. 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥: The initiative aims to foster sustainable water usage practices nationwide, demonstrate a community-led water management model that integrates traditional techniques, and strengthen local institutional capacity to scale the deployment of clean energy solutions.
