TotalEnergies (Paris:TTE) (LSE:TTE) (NYSE:TTE) and Air France-KLM have signed an agreement for TotalEnergies to supply up to 1.5 million tons of more sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Air France-KLM Group airlines over a 10-year period, until 2035. By 2030, Air France-KLM aims to reduce its CO₂ emissions per passenger/km by 30% compared with 2019 levels. “SAF contributes both to the energy transition of our customers in the aviation sector and to the industrial transition of our refineries. It therefore represents a real 'win-win' for the future of industry and aviation”, said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies. International Air Transport Association (IATA) announces a significant leap forward in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) production, with expectations to triple output in 2024. "The interest in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is increasing, and there is significant potential. However, the concrete plans we have seen are not yet sufficient. Governments have set clear expectations for the aviation industry to achieve a 5% reduction in CO2 emissions through SAF by 2030 and to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. They now need to implement policies to ensure airlines can actually purchase SAF in the necessary quantities," said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General. #business #financeworld #financeworldmagazine

The scalability challenge of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)… « Currently, SAF is positioned as the sector’s leading means of meeting pressing U.N.-set climate targets and emerging government-imposed mandates that require airlines to partially employ SAF to operate within their borders (now instated in places like the European Union, United Kingdom, and Singapore). The International Air Transport Association (IATA), a global trade association representing some 300 airlines, has committed to meeting a net-zero emissions target by 2050—and SAF is tied to a substantial 65 percent of its calculations for reaching that goal. » Interesting read. https://lnkd.in/eQYfwEgQ

Taking a step toward reducing carbon emissions, easyJet has signed an agreement with Braathens Renavia and Mana Group to secure a long-term supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The deal, outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to provide the airline with up to 150,000 tons of SAF, including up to 75,000 tons of e-SAF, starting in 2030. SAF is expensive. If we want to see a more sustainable solution for aviation fuel governments and corporations will have to start putting more funding into the bucket. The airlines having around 3% margins to put funding into the effort is not much. Share the responsibility with other corporations, so airline customers don't have to feel the burden in an already expensive world. #SAF #sustainability #airlines

📍𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗞𝗟𝗠 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 – 𝗧&𝗘 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 Air France-KLM has been ranked as the leading airline group for the adoption of alternative aviation fuels, according to new research from Transport & Environment (T&E). The environmental group’s SAF (‘sustainable’ aviation fuel) Observatory has assessed the efforts of 77 airlines around the world in using more alternative fuels to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. But the research found that so far only 10 airlines have made “serious plans to transition to green fuels”, with half of the carriers analysed by T&E receiving a zero score for their “lack of uptake” of alternative aviation fuels. Air New Zealand has purchased 30 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel (#SAF) from Neste – its largest transaction to date. With this single purchase, Air New Zealand will replace 1.6% of its total jet fuel supply in 2025 with sustainable fuel – four times the percentage achieved in 2024. "1.6% is still a very small proportion of our total fuel use, but it's four times more than we carried last year, so I am thrilled with the trajectory. Like all airlines, we urgently need to move away from our high reliance on fossil fuels as quickly as we can. Securing year-on-year higher volumes of SAF is critical," said the airline’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Kiri Hannifin. https://lnkd.in/eFJt2HeJ #Aviation #SustainableAviation #ChiefSustainabilityOfficer

“With our #SAF production capability of around 1.5 million tons per annum, Neste could fulfill the entire mandate from 2025 to 2029” ✈️🌱🛢️ I invite you to read out latest article on the impact of ReFuelEU Aviation on the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market with insights from my esteemed colleague, Alexander Kueper. While the EU-wide SAF blending quota is a pivotal step forward, there is an urgent need for greater clarity—both at the EU level and within individual member states. ReFuelEU sends a powerful signal to investors, #airlines and SAF producers who are committing substantial resources to ramp up SAF production capacity and operational readiness. We’ve done our job 🤝 Unfortunately, Germany and several other national governments have not implemented ReFuelEU on time. 🤦♂️ Although the SAF quota has been in effect since January 1st, there is a significant lack of legal certainty regarding key aspects: Who is obligated? What are the penalties for non-compliance? How will the flexibility mechanism work in practice? We urge national governments to take decisive and immediate action to meet their responsibilities and ensure the success of this critical initiative. 🚨The time to act is now!🚨 https://lnkd.in/gJrZefjj #sustainability #ChangeRunsOnRenewables

Corporate members of the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (SABA) have committed to purchasing sustainable aviation fuel certificates (SAFc) for nearly 50 million gallons of SAF, with an investment value of close to $200 million, reports Christopher Surgenor for GreenAir News. The multi-year collection of deals, which involves 20 corporate customers, four fuel providers and three airlines, has the potential to reduce around 500,000 tons of CO2e. Purchasing SAF certificates enables corporate travellers to invest in SAF and capture the environmental benefits, allowing them to make GHG emissions reduction claims on their climate disclosures, while the physical SAF flows to an aircraft operator. SABA is working with airline partners Alaska Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest Airlines, securing certificates through SkyNRG and purchasing directly from fuel providers including World Energy GH2. #sustainableaviation #sustainableaviationfuel https://lnkd.in/evRffHch

The price for progress. Based on today's prices, this will cost SIA Group roughly 2.5 million USD. The 1,000 tonnes of green jet fuel to be purchased are a small fraction of what the airline group uses in a year. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, SIA Group flights used more than 5 million tonnes of jet fuel annually. #sustainableaviationfuel #singapore
